Is hellfire loud?

How much noise does hellfire create? Specifically the hellfire charged bolts you fire out of the unrand crossbow. It seems to attract everything around but its hard to tell.

Firing any crossbow makes 7 noise at your position. Exploding bolts from Hellfire make 15 noise on the square they explode on, the same as other exploding ammunition. For comparison:

Fireball explosion: 15

No. Melee noise is capped at 12, always, unless you are playing a really, really old version.

Explosion noise depends only on the size. So the answer is "yes" for most monster sizes, but "no" for giant ones (it's 20 instead).

edit: note also that minmay's numbers are the noise at the beam's endpoint (or maybe whenever they hit a monster?). There's also a casting noise on your spot, which happens to be the same for iron shot and LCS but is only 5 for lightning bolt and fireball, and 7 for shatter.

If you cast shatter in an open area that doesn't destroy any walls, is it almost silent? Ie, the 7 noise at you is the only noise it makes? Do monsters hit with it also generate the 30 noise?

I'm not sure how often you're going to find yourself in a completely open area, but if so, shatter being almost silent seems odd.
