Understanding titles

I'm a title grinder, that's true...

I have some issues finding the good source...

This commit seems to be the last one and links to 2 files that describe titles (gods and skills).

Is it the one really used ?

I see 8 possible titles for Gods ? How does this work ?
Also some of them seem to be false (ie no 'Faith Healer' for Ely...) : do I miss something ?

God titles come from having your highest skill being invocation

Faith Healer isn't an Ely title any more, as of that commit.

There are 8 possible titles for every God based on how much piety you have, i.e., there's a different title for every star of piety, plus one more for those in penance. Then, you get the appropriate title if invo is your highest skill.

So, if I train up to invo 27/stupid higher than anything else and switch to jiv, I'll be a royal jelly?

I knew it depends on Invo skill + piety, but is it a recent change ? I always felt like there was only 4 god titles + the penance one...

Re: Understanding titles

Last tournament, there was a banner for having a wide array of Invocations-titles. It's been around at least since then, and I'm fairly sure it dates back to long, long before.

Re: Understanding titles

All you need to know about titles is that the staff title is the coolest one, followed by unarmed felid titles. And if you are a spriggan who masters necromancy first you literally become an orgasm.

Re: Understanding titles

I am just saddened by the fact that felids of Gozag are just "Initiates of Gozag." They should obviously be Fat Cats of Gozag.

Well, literally, you literally figuratively become an orgasm.

You should re-read Merriam Webster.

Re: Understanding titles

"La petite mort" is, in French, a figure of speech that refers to an orgasm (and the post-orgasmic feeling/state of mind). A spriggan that masters necromancy first does (literally) get the title, "la petite mort," but the title literally means "little death," not "orgasm." The latter is a conventional but nonetheless figurative meaning of the phrase.

Okay I feel that I have cursed myself and it will probably be a long time before my next "little death" because Jesus Christ that was the nerdiest thing I have written in a long time.

All too aware, but my original post was being playful about a different usage of literally. When one says of a translation, for instance, "this is the literal meaning," this means, "here is the word-by-word, exact translation" (the sort of translation you get from Google translate).

EDIT: My earlier post actually had nothing to do with the (over)use of "literally" for exaggeration, which doesn't particularly bother me.
