Three +8 broad axes, which ones to use when?

I've got an XL17 MiFi of Yred. AC 50 and a pretty comprehensive set of resistances, thanks to the +8 orange crystal plate mail, Amulet of Cekogob, and Ring of the King. Feeling pretty unstoppable actually - I just marched into the Elf:3 vault and cleared it out like a drunken frat house.

What I'm curious about is for my weapons - I have three +8 broad axes, so base damage is identical:
a - the +8 mithril axe "Arga" {speed, MR+ Str+2}
b - a +8 broad axe of draining
T - the +8 broad axe of the Two Names {vamp, Str+4 Int-3}

I'm thinking the speed brand will help me steal kills from my allies to save some XP, while the draining axe would add further to the XP loss issue with having allies.

Arga is the only one that actually gives me a resistance (MR), while the vampiric axe is a bit redundant because I have Yred's drain life ability. And the damage boost from speed is +50% and irresistible, so it compares pretty well with flame or lightning as well.

So I think Arga is the girl for me, but the question is, should I even still carry any of the others? Should I try to re-brand the draining axe?

Re: Three +8 broad axes, which ones to use when?

Take the Speed one.

With those defenses you will probably have trouble taking enough damage to make the vamp one worth it.

The draining one is fine, the XP loss is no big deal - but the speed one is better.

I would probably keep an eye out for an executioner axe, you have enough good apt to handle it and a weapon good enough to carry you trough the game if you don't find if. Keep an eye out for battleaxes too

If you want to kill a dangerour monster like Ancient Lich or OoF, use Arga. If you want to clear Vaults 5 non-stop, use vampiric. I'd keep both and used vampiric by default.

Be careful - thinking you're unstoppable is among the chief causes of death.

Stealing kills to get XP from your allies isn't a thing, and nor is XP loss from the draining brand.

In this case, I think you are always supposed to pick Arga.

The less damage you take the more useful vamp is, because the easier it is for it to keep you at max hp at all times.

Wait, your question is "which of these three one-handed axes should I use?"

That's kind of what I was wondering as well. I'm guessing the three axes are your best weapon options at the moment, but would it make more sense to be planning to jump ship to a Battleaxe or Executioner's Axe, seeing as you've got AC 50 already (= defense isn't an issue)?

Re: Three +8 broad axes, which ones to use when?

if you have a +8 speed or +8 vamp broad axe, no, you should not be planning to switch to a 2h axe

use the saved xp (it is a lot of xp) elsewhere

Interesting, thanks. I have become study. I would definitely have been thinking to switch.

Re: Three +8 broad axes, which ones to use when?

I would definitely recommend using the vampiric broad axe as your primary axe. A vampiric broad axe is good enough to let you o-tab through most of the game without much trouble.
