Train opposite schools (Fire/Ice)?

I just started a HEWz (flame) and the first book I find is a book of ice.

At first I thought, that's not what I want, but then I thought - whatever is resistant to fire is often susceptible to cold, maybe they make good counterparts.

Should I train both fire and ice magic (I'm wanting to go heavy on conjurations)?

Re: Train opposite schools (Fire/Ice)?

What version are you playing in this game?
In 0.7, opposite schools train much more slowly, but doesn't cost more XP. In 0.8, they train at the normal rate, but XP cost is doubled.
It might be useful to get a few levels in the other school, but not too much, or it's going to be expensive (or painful victory dancing)

Ooh, that needs to be clarified better. In my 0.8 games I've been training opposite schools just like in 0.7, with no clue it was using all that experience...

Well, there is the aptitude penalty shown in the skill screen.

Okay, I'll go on my merry way with fire then. I've found a ring of fire and a staff of wizardry, and a +5 rod of destruction. I love when I find cool stuff.

Oh, and an amulet of gourmand too, always nice for spamming high level spells!
