How do you see the list of your best crawlers, aka the top list of your characters without dying? is it listed in a txt file somewhere? or can you press a button ingame/on the menu to see it? or is the only way to see it to have char die with enough points that he can see the top crawlers?

In 0.10, vorpalise weapon auto-IDs as long as you already have curse weapon identified, to handle some weird edge case. In trunk it always auto-IDs.

I'd be interested to hear what the edge case is.

Something I did not know: when making a brand permanent, a vorpalise weapon scroll also causes a spell effect around you depending on the weapon's brand. So ozocubu's refrigeration for freezing aura, toxic radiance for poison weapon, and an effect like a scroll of immolation for fire brand.

Does significant damage! Vorpalized freezing onto a bardiche once and I took about 30 damage (only had 77 max HP, no rC).

Similarly, blessing a pain weapon at Kiku's altar casts Symbol of Torment and blessing a holy wrath weapon at TSO's altar casts Holy Word.

You should try to vorpalize a temporary distortion brand sometime, it's fun.

The knowledge bots say that Yredelemnul will execommunicate you if you cast Statue Form.

Is that actually true? Or a joke? Or are the knowledge bots as full of crap as the wiki supposedly is? Or what?

Yes, yes he will.

That's weird, then. The game itself (at least on Yred's religion screen) doesn't mention him deprecating that at all... unless Statue Form counts as "holy" magic for some reason.

That would be even weirder, then, cause he doesn't seem to care if you're undead.

Unliving things are outside the cycle of life and death. That's why he dislikes them.

On my last win (with a NaGl), I used to blink right next to uniques (had controlled blink castable) to constict them, which basically kills everything not bigger than you. But this depends on your character, how strong it is, and what panic buttons you have available (controlled blink/step from time).

If you think you can't handle him, just skip the level. Maybe kill him later, or ignore him.

I just killed him, forgot to mention that this NaWz worshipped Ashenzari and had a staff of summoning. Kiting him w/ Haunt was enough.

There should be an exit near the entrance, as long as you don't get too far over your head I'd expect you can run back to it.

Also: best portal vault. So awesome.

They vary in threat quite a bit. For reference: boss monsters include such things as ancient lich, greater mummy, beefed up tentacled monstrosity.

On the subject of wizlabs: does the one with lots of trees and centaurs have anything more dangerous further in? I found a stash of treasure with an oklob plant behind a secret door quite near the entrance - but didn't explore the rest fully as I was afraid of meeting a spriggan druid with no way to get away from the trees.

Doesn't look like it from the .des file. Centaurs, centaur warriors, oklobs and stone golems.

That one is possibly the least threatening wizlab. Centaur packs, but those are incredibly common at the depths wizlabs can spawn and the terrain is actually unfavorable to them. Oklobs in a secret room guard most of the loot, mostly spellbooks, but those are basically non-threatening at that point assuming you know they are going to be behind that door. The other secret door has variant stone golems, which you can kite.

What's the reasoning behind Dracs getting 0% GDR? Seems like a major melee handicap on what should be a flexible race. I'd been wondering why ettins/giants continue to randomly do stupid amounts of damage to my late game Dr's, no matter how I stacked the AC....

Imho, it's especially great for extended. Regen is a must when you're resting and time is an issue (like hell without high piety Zin, Abyss without Lugonu). The extra maxhp is pretty nice too, espeially on lower HP growth races. Won a 15 rune MiMo these days with this ring. I never took it off since i got it in relatively early D. Had lots of leftover food, even, and food shops where I bought nothing.

To answer your question:
LearnDB wrote:[Electric]Weapon brand that causes your weapon to blast your target with an explosion of sparks on 1 out of every 3 hits, doing 9+d15 additional damage (which ignores AC). Does not work on flying, levitating, or insulated targets. Note that this amount of damage is entirely independent of stats, slaying, enchantment, or base damage.

LearnDB wrote:[Vorpal]A relatively weak melee brand, increases melee weapon damage by 12.5% on average. Strong on launchers though (30% extra damage). Can be placed on any weapon but you probably should affix freezing or flaming to a melee weapon instead if you can.

I'm trying some games with a DsAK build equipped with a spear.
The spear is described as a +2 +2 spear {=f}.
What does that {=f] mean ?

It means 'Don't [f]ire this item'. You can inscribe items with notes that block the use of the command associated with that note, and in this case your spear starts inscribed with that so you don't accidentally throw your only melee weapon right at the start, and have a hobgoblin pick it up and force you to slap weakly at it while it stabs you with your own spear.

Pop quiz:

+2 spear of venom or +2 trident?

I'm only XL:8 at the moment and on D:5 - playing a DDFi of Makhleb

Edit: question invalidated by a +4 +1 trident of protection. (still curious what a more experienced player would choose of the above two)

Spear of venom against stuff where poison works (it is also better than your trident of protection); trident against stuff where it doesn't.

Is it safe for a high level character who worships Ashenzari to rely on a ball of energy to restore MP?

It is not too safe all the time. Ashenzari prevents confusion, but it cannot prevent mana drain.

There's no problem with the crystal ball if you have a backup plan if it misfires. A wand of teleportation will usually fix the mana drain problem, although you have to start all over against whatever you were fighting. A backup staff of channeling, potion of magic, or the Sublimation of Blood spell will also help get you back on your feet quickly after an accident. You also get a significant buff to evocations for binding jewelry, so there really isn't any character more suited to using a crystal ball.

Since Wizardmode still doesn't show spell damage, does anyone know the base damage on Shock and Sting? It's not on the Knowledge bots or wiki. I'm guessing 1d8 like Magic Dart for Shock but I could be wrong. Sting isn't very high though, feels like 1d4 + Poison?

Those numbers are in zap-data.h.

1) Shock: 1d(3+power/4) since the power cap is 25 -> 1d8 , sometimes 1d9
2) Sting: 1d(3+power/5) -> 1d8 at max power

I'm not sure what you mean by base damage. Spell damage depend on spell power. Magic dart and sting have the same damage, it varies between 1d3 and 1d8. Want the formula?

Sorry galehar, should have clarified "max base damage assuming best possible spellpower".

So it's 1d8 - 1d9 for Shock and 1d8 for Sting? Thanks CommanderC.

I'm just gathering data to put on the excel spreadsheet since I'm trying to make it as accurate as possible. I probably should do some data-diving for missing stuff, eh? But figured I'd ask first. Thanks.

Shock's max damage is 1d9, sting is 1d8.

What exactly is the effect of orcs being "consumed by bloodlust?"

Looks like it's meant to increase their melee and ranged damage by 15% per "degree" of frenzy, but the code looks wrong to me. If I'm reading it right, it only factors in the frenzy degree if the degree is a value which won't increase damage at all. Someone else want to take a look at it and verify?

from melee_attack.cc:
  Code:
if (as_mon->has_ench(ENCH_BATTLE_FRENZY))
        {
            frenzy_degree = as_mon->get_ench(ENCH_BATTLE_FRENZY).degree;
        }
        else if (as_mon->has_ench(ENCH_ROUSED))
        {
            frenzy_degree = as_mon->get_ench(ENCH_ROUSED).degree;
        }

        if (frenzy_degree == -1)
        {
#ifdef DEBUG_DIAGNOSTICS
            const int orig_damage = damage;
#endif

            damage = damage * (115 + frenzy_degree * 15) / 100;

            dprf("%s frenzy damage: %d->%d",
                 attacker->name(DESC_PLAIN).c_str(), orig_damage, damage);
        }

Does the same in thing in mon-act.cc for ranged damage.
