How bad are amulets of inaccuracy?

I found a randart amulet with inaccuracy and rC++. Just wondering how bad inaccuracy is, and when, if ever, it is worth wearing.

On average, it's the same accuracy penalty as a -10 weapon enchantment.

at least it's an amulet, just swap it on whenever you need it.

But how bad is that in terms of actually being able to hit things?

It depends on the monster you are trying to hit, your weapon, your fighting skills, and your stats. Generally it's pretty bad though, especially against enemies that actually have EV. With high skills against a low EV enemy it might not be that noticeable. I guess you could test it with fsim.

Re: How bad are amulets of inaccuracy?

-10 accuracy is somewhere around -5 damage or so in overall badness, I think. (Or, since damage and accuracy aren't separated any more, about -4 or -3 slaying.)

Re: How bad are amulets of inaccuracy?

Depending on the evasion of the creature you're facing and how much skill you have with the weapon you're using, -5 accuracy is somewhere between 2% and 20% higher chance of missing the creature in question.

You can for certain say it's accuracy penalty is cancelled out by +5 slaying though.

you can for certain say that, but you'd also for certain be completely wrong
5 slaying or enchantment: adds 1d6-1 to your accuracy, an average of 2.5*
amulet of inaccuracy: subtracts 5 from your accuracy (no roll), an average of 5

*slaying/enchantment is all on one roll, so if you have, say, a +3 slaying ring, +5 slaying ring, and +7 enchantment, you get 1d16-1, not 1d4-1+1d6-1+1d8-1

edit: unless you mean +5 slaying is more beneficial to your damage than an amulet of inaccuracy is detrimental, which is true in most cases (and pretty much all practical ones)...just remember that amulet of inaccuracy affects spells etc. whereas slaying does not

Re: How bad are amulets of inaccuracy?

Sorry, yes, that is correct, I misspoke. 5 slaying doesn't directly counteract the penalty of the amulet.

Isn't it the other way around?

Not sure I follow you.

  Code:
Wiki:
Wearing an amulet of inaccuracy decreases the accuracy of each of your attacks, physical or magical, by a random amount ranging from 0 to 5.

EDIT: nvm, it is the other way around.
