Does Fighting have the same effect on ranged as melee?

Just wanted to clarify whether Fighting skill has the same effect in increasing damage & accuracy for ranged weapons as it does for melee?

Also, do potions of might have any direct effect on ranged damage? (I guess increasing str has some effect indirectly..)

Fighting's effect is the same; Might does not add the extra 1d10 damage to ranged combat, but the strength bonus can add some damage.

Wasn't the whole point of ranged reform to make ranged behave exactly like melee? I mean I can see 1d10 ranged slay being a bit OP, but still.

What, do you shoot the arrows harder? Maybe a ranged weapon speed boost instead...

Yeah, it's a difference, and maybe an unnecessary one. To be fair you also can't use ranged combat while berserk.

Hehe, maybe !agility should give the +1-10 for ranged weapons that !might does for melee.

Not that I'm seriously suggesting that, !agility is already awesome.

Yeah, medieval longbows were so hard to draw that professional archers often had deformed spines. (Maybe that should be a new mutation that gives + slaying with bows but -EV…)

Yeah, but I guess you haven't, no offense. A bow (long or short, compound or not) has an optimal draw length and you cant put a lot more past this without changing to longer arrows, which is pointless because the gain is minimal anyhow while sacrificing accuracy (you dont want to pull back further than just behind your ear). If you want to take advantage of a more powerful pull, you change the entire bow out for one that is stiffer. Its even more extreme with crossbows, which have an exact drawlength measured by the mechanism.

So that's why I said it would make more sense if a potion of might gave a speed bonus (which translates to increased damage) with ranged weapons, because if you are stronger the one thing you can do is pull the bow/crossbow back faster.

That said, its somewhat spoilery and defeats the idea of making ranged reflect melee even if does make more sense, so hey why not have a magic potion just increase your damage.

Clearly the bows you find dynamically adjust in dimension/construction/material/etc. to fit your character's str/dex, much in the way that every single plate armour you find in the dungeon fits your character.
