Amulet choice: Guardian spirit vs. Brooch of shielding

I was just playing a HuBe with vampiric battleaxe, ~170 HP and 36MP, 33AC and 20EV.
I found the brooch of shielding (Ward, rN+, +4 AC, +4EV), while wearing an amulet of guardian spirit.
I switched to the brooch, but was wondering whether people think it's worth giving up essentially 36 extra HP in exchange for 8 ac/ev and rN+.

Vampiric weapon has a great synergy with good defense so the brooch is a clear winner. For non-vampiric weapon I would use fsim to check.

On a Fighter or Berserker, I generally love finding an amulet of GS. Makes a great pair, since I won't likely be using MP for much of anything.
Any other class, the Brooch is a wonderful find (especially casters of all classes).

Really, in your case, I see it as a coin toss.

EV seems to be more important than AC vs the monster.

What do the 'attacking' and 'defending' headers mean? Not too familiar with fsim.

"Attacking" is how much damage you deal to the monster.
"Defending" is how much damage the monster deals to you.

While it doesn't really matter, I'm not sure I'd agree with that. The average hit goes from 4.0 to 2.9, or a reduction of ~25%, and accuracy goes from 54% to 45%, or a reduction of 17%. Either way, I base nearly all of my characters around high AC and EV, because I love not dying. That being said, does it seem odd that the average hit from a stone giant is 3 damage? I guess there's a lot of hits for 0 damage to bring down the average, but still. Probably also no weapon on the stone giant.

Average hit damage is 7.4 vs 6.4 (15% difference), average accuracy is 54% vs 45% (20% difference).
AvDam takes accuracy into account so it should be ignored when comparing AC vs EV.

Edit. Yes, based on max damage it looks like Stone Giant had no weapon (its max damage is 45, I used plate armour, GDR 0.39 reduces damage by at least 0.39*37=14.43 so the monster can deal 30 damage at most)

Stone giants cannot wield weapons. (Unless a vault cheats and gives them one, I guess, but I'm not aware of any vaults that do that.)
