I skipped it after it damn-neared my ass. Did I permanently lose a rune? (Already have the demonic one, so just need to know if Hellion Island has one.)

Sometimes it does have the demonic rune, not always. Usually has some good items also, but most probably not worth the hassle.

Why tell me it had the demonic rune when I told you in the OP I already found the demonic rune? There can't be two demonic runes. I suppose the question I should have asked was, could any of the four majors have been there?

The answer is no, it can't contain any rune other than a demonic one (if you don't already have one)

A short overview:

• Hellion island is one of several places where the demonic rune can be generated.
• Hellion island does not generate any other runes.
• Unlike the four other pan runes, the demonic rune is not lost permanently when you leave a level on which it could be found. The demonic rune will appear again later.

Hellion island is scary if you charge into LOS of a lot of them at once, but it is relatively easy to position yourself so you only see one at a time and can pick it off at range.

Yeah, I wasn't very bright. I was walking trying to get into range of glaciate to kill them all at once, moving intentionally into the LOS of more and more, like a fool, all the while completely ignoring the potion of invisibility he was holding. The first volley once he was noticed very nearly killed him, and probably should have, so I thought it wiser to restrain my compulsion to clear that one.
