Hm, GDD also starts with GD.

And for reasons that still remain unknown, bcadren was curiously overcome by the urge to see how some of his old haunts were doing...

The most common misconception I see seems to be in the general form of "[X] is always [good/bad]."

Crawl has enough complexity that about the only thing that I can say which fits that form is, "Dying is always bad." (I imagine there's a Felid player out there who might disagree with that in one particular situation.)

Re: Common Misconceptions and Game Tips

I think that's the truth. Someone gives specific advice to someone in some situation, and then people keep repeating it and turning into an absolute.
Some guy with 10 str and all his XP in conjurations comes on the forum and says 'Hey gais I just found GDA shud i enchant it cuz it's awesome?'
Then someone tells him 'No, GDA is awful for you, and in fact, it's awful for most characters'

Then, in the future, people just say 'GDA is always bad'

I am hard pressed to imagine a scenario where worshipping chei increases ones chances of winning though. I've won a couple of chei characters, and they were fun, but hyper slow movement causes a lot of problems.

Well one case I can think of is if you're in a situation early on where you have no means of teleporting and no hope of escape other than wasting a tremendous amount of resources. Especially now without jump this situation is even more probable.

Which then turns most advice into skipping most of the content of the game.

Statistically, most players die on d:2. What you have to do to win is SKIP D:2.
mikee_ has won 166 times in 396 games (41.92%): 4xDSFi 4xMDFi 3xDDCK 3xDDEE 3xHOPr 2xDDHe 2xDDNe 2xDSBe 2xKeAE 2xMfCr 2xMfSt 2xMiAr 2xMiBe 2xNaTm 1xCeAr 1xCeAs 1xCeBe 1xCeEn 1xCeFE 1xCePa 1xCeTm 1xCeWz 1xDDAs 1xDDCr 1xDDHu 1xDDTm 1xDENe 1xDEWz

Re: Common Misconceptions and Game Tips

Statistically, 100% of Mikee's nagas have been transmuters, excluding the removed background of priest. They have a 100% win rate (2 of 2, or 3 of 3 including priest). Conclusion: Naga transmuters 4 lyfe! All other backgrounds are folly.
