Ru Questions

Regarding the new god Ru:

1. Does sacrificing at max piety do anything, like make your abilities stronger still? If not, why are you allowed you sacrifice at max piety?
2. Does sacrificing a hand have any negative effects on one handed weapons (such as slowing your launcher)?

Re: Ru Questions

You can sacrifice at ****** because that's not max (you reach 6* at 160 and max at 200). If you can still sacrifice at 200, then THAT is a bug. And it's a bit of a usability issue either way.

Re: Ru Questions

At least for gifting gods, sacrifices have a purpose even if you're at 200 piety, since they'll still go towards gift timeout. And if you count zin bribes as sacrificing gold, you won't technically go past 200 piety, but you'll "bank" any excess and gain it fairly quickly when you drop below 200 (this is possible if you have a huge amount of gold and decide to dump it all at once). Also, corpse sacrifices can sometimes be useful if you want to deny enemies with animate dead etc.

Even aside from that, allowing sacrifices at maxed piety isn't a bug. The game tries to hide your exact piety level from you (even if it sometimes doesn't do the best job of it), so any effect that is blocked at 200 piety would be an information leak.

Re: Ru Questions

evilmike: This is about Ru, who does not have corpse sacrifices but stuff like sacrificing one of your hands. Also Ru's piety does not decay and cant be spent. It just counts how much you have sacrificed, basically.

Re: Ru Questions

Patashu, I did two sacrifices at full stars. I'm still not completely sure if I was at max piety or not... which is one of the reasons I made this thread.

Re: Ru Questions

Patashu is correct -- there's a gap of 40 piety between 6* and max piety, and Ru will continue to offer you sacrifices within this window, because all five of Ru's powers become more effective as you gain piety, mostly linearly. It's entirely possible to make two sacrifices and not go from 160 to 200 piety if the sacrifices are trivial enough.

If you decide you've sacrificed enough and stop making sacrifices, Ru will start offering new sacrifices after longer and longer timers in order to avoid spamming you with unwanted sacrifice messages (and prevent abusing rerolling sacrifices). You can reset the timer to its normal speed by making accepting one of the offered sacrifices.

Sacrificing a hand doesn't directly impact anything about one-handed weapons -- there will be no penalties to their use. You will of course be unable to use a shield also, and you will also lose a ring slot. Losing a hand is the largest single sacrifice by a large margin -- unless you sacrifice a skill trained to very high levels.

Edit: Slings, blowguns, and Throwing are the only one-handed "launcher" skills -- sacrificing a hand will prevent all use of bows and crossbows larger than the hand crossbow.
