Formicids of Cheibriados

Has anybody tried them out? It seems like a good idea, but then plenty of things that kill me in crawl seemed like good ideas at the time.

There are 6 FoXX high combo scores of Chei at http://crawl.akrasiac.org/scoring/top-combo-scores.html
Search for FoEE on that page

Re: Formicids of Cheibriados

I don't think there's really any special synergy but personally I don't think that Fo of Chei has extra difficulties beyond just the usual problems from being Fo and from worshipping Chei.

Almost certainly other gods are better for winning, especially since Fo of Chei gets punished very hard for mistakes.

I played a FoIE of Chei as my last game, but I found a +11 venom longbow in lair and had 5 slaying, and it turns out a +16 longbow stops things from becoming problems. There were some situations where I definitely could have died, but I think those were more problems from being a formicid than from worshipping chei.

Yea. I assumed doubling up on the weaknesses would be rough. I was kind of interested as to whether they could make viable heavy armor casters.

Right now I'm having too much fun with FoFI of Nemelex.

Re: Formicids of Cheibriados

If you want heavy armor casters I'm very much going to question why you would pick Fo^Chei over something like Te/Gr^Chei, because not only are formicids no spectacular casters - but they also have the additional disadvantage of losing the primary method of escape as a Cheite.

Blinking and teleport, which chei allows but formicid can't do.

Re: Formicids of Cheibriados

You can't shaft in branch ends, and it just happens to be that branch ends are exactly the places you'd wish you could either blink or teleport the most when you blunder into one of the many tight situations available there.

Some very interesting morgues on that list, particularly http://crawl.lantea.net/crawl/morgue/Ye ... 030228.txt.

27m score for a formicid monk, who actually used polearms, of chei. Who cleared an entire zig, and still won in 55k turns. Was even cast into the abyss during the zig, where he ran and got the rune because why waste turns. And he self-shafted repeatedly whenever wanting to skip floors, because hey, saves a lot of time. I assume the zig run was for experience/time reasons, and was meant to raise rather than lower the score. Still I have to wonder if he could have left after 10-15 floors and still 15 runed it. Of course, I'm certain that Yermak is a far superior judge of speedruns than I am :)

  Code:
48193 | Dis:1    | Entered Level 1 of the Iron City of Dis
 48193 | Dis:1    | Found a gateway to Hell.
 48197 | Dis:1    | You fall through a shaft!
 48197 | Dis:2    | Found a gateway to Hell.
 48201 | Dis:2    | You fall through a shaft for 2 floors!
 48204 | Dis:4    | You fall through a shaft for 2 floors!
 48207 | Dis:6    | You fall through a shaft!
48207 | Dis:7    | Entered Level 7 of the Iron City of Dis

Fastest Dis:1-6 ever.

Re: Formicids of Cheibriados

'What is optimal for win rate' and 'what is optimal for score' are completely different questions/answers, of course.

Re: Formicids of Cheibriados

If you're interested in Fo^Chei, try Fo^Zin. It achieves most of the same things but without taking away your ability to run away. As a side bonus, under Vitalization, the combo blocks almost every non-damage negative effect in the game.
