Dex Diminishing Returns

From what I hear, Dex starts to have diminishing returns after 24.

I have a HaGl that's going to hit the 24 dex mark with passive dex gain, and I'm wondering if I should switch to str, or just keep maxing that dex? Or maybe int? (I'm not casting anything atm, and don't plan to for quite a while, but I suppose eventually I'll grab some of the utility spells and likely haste)

In general, is it a bad idea to keep increasing dex past 24, or are the reduced dodge gains still worth it? (or does the extra str allowing heavier armor outclass the dodge increases?)

The most reliable way to learn is to test it in wizmode.

Re: Dex Diminishing Returns

Considering that the relationship between Dex/Dodge => Evasion => Getting hit isn't as transparent as it should be, diminishing returns might kick in before or after 24. Sure, a special stepdown function kicks in at 24 Dex, but there's also a stepdown at 30 EV, and EV affects some monsters differently than others depending on their accuracy and so on.

I tend to just eyeball it in a vague "probably enough Dex"/"probably not enough Dex" type of way, but if you're really curious about the specifics then running fsim against common monsters at various levels of Dex/Dodging might help.

The stepdown no longer has specific breakpoints, it's now a logarithmic function. Going past 24 continues to have good benefits, just slightly less than before. It might be worth it for OP to get int if you're planning on casting haste, but if you are going without higher spells continuing to get dex is just fine.

Those are still specific breakpoints. With 30 pre-stepdown EV, your post-stepdown EV is 30. 31 pre-stepdown EV becomes 30.7.

Re: Dex Diminishing Returns

I was talking about the dex one, and just quoted a bit too much. Does the dex one work the same way that the stepdown still starts at 24?

Like pretty much everything, dex starts to have diminishing returns after 1.

Re: Dex Diminishing Returns

That's what I had assumed, but somehow I assume you're talking about it in a much more abstract sense, and not in the concrete sense of when the stepdown function starts.
