Does acquirement count items in shops as "seen"?

Does acquirement account for items in shops without you purchasing them, or do you have to buy stuff for it to affect the results?

Yes it takes into account items seen in shops, or yes you have to buy them?

If you see them, they have been seen.

Re: Does acquirement count items in shops as "seen"?

From the wiki concerning Treasure Troves(Which use the same Aquirement algorithm...again according to the wiki itself(:
"When it comes to jewelry, you do have some control over what a treasure trove will generate. The code prefers to give you amulets and rings you haven't identified yet, so if there are still several items left unidentified, it may be worthwhile to go to any jewelry shops you have access to and buy any garbage items you haven't identified yet. Spending a little money on an unidentified ring of hunger or amulet of inaccuracy might significantly improve your odds of getting that ring of slaying or amulet of resist mutation you needed."

This seems contrary to the responses in this thread, so either there's an error in the responses, or someone should review/update the wiki. I have no knowledge which is correct, but this is very obvious inconsistency.

Re: Does acquirement count items in shops as "seen"?

Looks to me like ShopInfo::add_item adds the item to the stash tracker, but doesn't call seen_item like Stash::add_item does. So I'm not sure it actually does count items in shops as seen.

I also suspect (but am not certain) that seeing an item wielded/worn by a monster doesn't count it as seen until the monster drops it and you see it on the ground. So Cheibrodos may be wrong here.

I'd like to rescind a previous statement: Just because you have seen a thing does not mean that it has been seen. That would be silly.
