I just ran into one of these. Recent change or bug? It's definitely way more trouble than it's worth to kill it without disintegrate.

Context is important.

tl;dr: they spam you a lot less now and can probably be reasonably killed now.

Can orange crystal statue's confuse now be resisted by MR since it's a spell? If so I might actually fight them, if not, not worth it.
