websocket problems

In the webtiles version of the game, on s-z.org I keep getting "websocket has failed" and other connection errors. Is there a fix for this or is it just the hazard of playing online?

Re: websocket problems

There's a way to fix that in Firefox but if you play on Lantea or use Chrome it's going to be fine (at least for me).

Re: websocket problems

Yes I tried it in Chrome and it worked however I try to avoid using Chrome as much as possible. I typically use Firefox so a fix for that would be good to hear...

Re: websocket problems

For some reason s-z now works under Firefox too. I toggled websockets off and then back on in Firefox's about:config. Idk. :P

Re: websocket problems

There doesn't seem to be anything I can see that fixes and for some reason it is also happening in Chrome now, too.

So it arbitrarily ousts some connections? :/ But it still serves a page, so in theory it should be able to serve a better error than "The Websocket connection was closed.
Reload to try again." Something like "All circuits are busy now, please try again later..." would at least be understandable, since reloading does absolutely nothing except increment the rage meter by ++.

And if it is too busy for just my game, why can't I at least watch others? Giving me the error above with just the (useless) chat box below, is worse than aggravating. I realize: free game and all but meh :/ I am this close: "" to killing my character (I mean going to V5) having done everything else there is to do without attending the depths, slime or elf, and this is my best NaTm character to date on Webtiles.

Re: websocket problems

Does CAO work for you?

http://crawl.akrasiac.org:8080/

It's another US based server.

Re: websocket problems

presumably it's not arbitrary but it instead rejects all websocket connections once it is full, and since spectating also uses websockets if you cannot play you cannot spectate

Re: websocket problems

Well that is decidedly odd, Crate. If it doesn't kick then why did my socket die mid game? CAO works but sadly my character isn't on there.

Re: websocket problems

I've had websocket issues with telnet, too. I'm guessing that it happens when you lose your connection and then find that the server is full when telnet tries to recover the connection. That's just speculation, tho.
