Dragons walk through lava?

I just fought an ice dragon who happily waded into lava to get at me. Seems...unlikely.

Re: Dragons walk through lava?

The only dragons that aren't fliers are iron dragons and the simulacrum/zombie/skeleton variants of dragons. (!Bone dragons fly just fine!)

So it didn't wade straight through lava, it merely flied over it.

Re: Dragons walk through lava?

Okay, so I get that dragons can fly, which explains how they get over lava, but how come I saw a dragon going over deep water? Explain THAT one.

But what about ice, poison, draining and lightning dragons? What about drakes?

TMI, dude. Dragons treat everything like a bathroom, you don't have to tell us.

It was a Dragon of Beogh. I mean obviously.

Re: Dragons walk through lava?

D'oh. Makes perfect sense.

This is a case where the tiles created a false bias in my head -- most of the dragons look "heavy," as though they are standing very solidly on trunk-like legs, and their wings look vestigial (an artifact of evolution, too small to achieve true flight for such a massive creature). The drake tiles signify flying much more obviously.

I'm actually surprised I've played the game this long and never noticed this behavior.

Ice dragons freeze a pocket of air in around themselves. Swamp drakes, death drakes, and swamp dragons use their huge dense clouds to displace liquids. Storm dragons electrolyse the liquids. Wind drakes just surround themselves with an air bubble.

As for shadow dragons... they just drain the water away.

I hear ice dragons breath on the water and create a frozen bridge

ADoM has that. Then you can cross deep water over the ice bridge, provided you're not carrying too heavy a load. Then a fire-breathing dragon comes around while you're on the bridge...

Or in a certain dungeon a certain monster confuses you right into water, which is red for a reason ...

As we forgive our developers,
And lead us not into the Abyss,
But deliver us from Sigmund,
For Thine is the Roguelike,
