How dangerous is low int?

so, I am playing a DsBe of trog, and the loot is quite amazing. I found a pair of boots with +5dam, and Stlt++, but int -3.
now, trog gave me a vamp bastard sword with rN+ and int-4.
now my int is 2, using those.
how dangerous is to walk around with such low intelligence?

You need to just be super careful around neqoxecs and things that summon them, and carry restore abilities. I'd consider using a ring of intelligence to get a little higher, but even without I'd use those items. As a Ds you might get more int from levelups, too.

In most of the game it's not dangerous at all.

In the places where it *is* potentially dangerous (Abyss, Pan, places with brain worms (like that one lair ending)) what there is to do is if you get drained to 0 or less int, either cure it, or stop using the equipment giving you the penalty until you cure it.

Note however that getting drained to 0 or less is *nasty* and will screw you up for a while (even if you cure it right away)

stat drain[2/4]: 0 str: Collapse: 1/4 regen rate, 1/2 carrying capacity. 0 int: Brainless: Can't memorize or cast spells or read tomes of Destruction. 80% chance of failure when reading scrolls. 0 dex: Clumsy: 0 stealth, minimal evasion, can't stab, can't block. All three effects halve speed (this stacks).

Everything Siegurt said should be heeded. There's no need to wear +Int jewelry, but you should considering keeping some on you to swap in case you need it. As Siegurt says, swap it preventatively, since the effects of < 1 stat linger for a while even if you rectify the situation immediately.

The Statue of Wucad Mu (also generic orange crystal statues) will drain your intelligence pretty quick regardless of whether you started with 2 or 20. They are not mostly harmless like neqoxecs and mind worms. Enter the line-of-sight of one of those statues pretty much only if you can kill it instantly. Sometimes you can try something cute if you have clarity and restore abilities on your person, but even that is limited to running past, and definitely not fighting it manually.

Orange crystal statues can be insta-killed with a wand of disintegration. Just making that explicit for anyone not in the know.

Disintegration doesn't just insta-kill orange crystal statues. It insta-kills statues. It is very indiscriminant as long as your target is immobile and made of a mineral. (except maybe Roxanne? memory is hazy on this one)

It does instakill orange and IIRC silver statues (the ones that summon demons). It doesn't instakill ice statues, archer statues, wizard statues, scorch-marked statues, lasher statues etc. It also obviously doesn't instakill Roxanne.

CrawllWiki rulez again: http://crawl.chaosforge.org/Wucad_Mu%27s_Monastery

(Reading the wiki is so dangerous that even NOT reading it can kill you).

GDD: Make wand of disintegration consistent (I'll give Roxanne because interesting unique, but the rest have no right to survive a hit)

I don't think that "you have item X, now you can instakill a type of enemies" is a very interesting mechanic. A case can be made for statues being uninteresting enemies in general, but I like ice statues in ice caves.

Well, I would not count on it being right.
