Seeking god advice

I'm playing a Naga IE, and I just got handed one of the best randarts I've ever seen:
  Code:
the +8,+9 lajatang of the Globe {freeze, +Inv rF+ rN+}
on D5.

Usually with elementalists I just go Vehumet and blast things because I find that fun, but I want to try to do this one more optimally, especially since I'm not very good at Naga. Any thoughts?
Three wins: Gargoyle Earth Elementalist of Ash, Ogre Fighter of Ru, Deep Dwarf Fighter of Makhleb (0.16 bugbuild :( )

Re: Seeking god advice

I don't see why would that weapons change your god choice. It's a great melee weapon, it will be great for hitting dudes with 0 skill for some time and if you invest into Staves, for entire game. Melee is good with any character, and with Veh you get mana points for any kills your make.

Re: Seeking god advice

Getting a very good weapon shouldn't change your god choice (except perhaps to make Trog and gods w/ branding gifts slightly less desirable). If by "play optimally" you mean you want to win, I'd recommend you play one of the very strong gods that will get you through the most dangerous parts of the game with ease: Fedhas, Nemelex, Yred, and Makhleb. If you want to just go Vehumet anyway, that's fine -- you'll still have a killer lajatang.

Re: Seeking god advice

+Inv could change my god plans, Ashenzari and Nemelex become better. Nemelex is not a good option for IE but Ashenzari is, especially since you are unlikely to swap to a better weapon.

Yes, he gifts them fairly often and usually with an ego. On the last Centaur I played, I got one artefact barding with slaying, a barding of flying, and a barding of cold resistance. I don't see how that could be any different with Naga bardings.

For this message the author Laraso has received thanks:

Re: Seeking god advice

Try a god you haven't tried before. I would try a non-allies god as whacking things yourself just got safer and more fun. If I had to pick a name I'd say Ashenzari.

Oh, I bet your update means this is no longer an active question. :(
