It wears off via gaining XP; you can't 5 away a drain. In Trunk, potions of restore ability will remove draining by half.

I have 14, but apparently not the newest one, because Restore Abilities didn't do anything. =\

I'm so badly Drained, I don't even know how I can possibly recover. Help?

Re: Draining takes to long to wear off

If potions of restore ability aren't helping in your version, you need to go somewhere where there are monsters you can safely take on and kill them until you cure your draining. The more drained you are, the faster you recover on gaining XP (unless that was changed), so it shouldn't be too long before you get back to a more reasonable skill level.

Re: Draining takes to long to wear off

Kill weak things with the trident, probably in Lair branches. Shouldn't be too hard. I would just play normally as if drain didn't exist.

Also don't get drained that much. A ring of positive energy is hardly necessary, but you even have one in your inventory, unless you found it after getting drained.

Upgrade the game to the latest version and then use restore abilities to reduce the draining effect.

So, if I downloaded the newest version, how would I get this character on it? A n00b question, but I'm pretty clueless about this sort of thing.

I normally would avoid being so badly drained, but it was a situation where I was trying to just survive on Elf:3 and draining wasn't catching my attention as much as my HP/consumables. And I tried killing stuff, but all the easy branches are cleared out. Then I decided to try the Depths some more and was making progress. but was blindsided by my old Draconian Ghost....which started breathing draining breath on me. -_-

Your saves are located in .stone-soup (Linux) or in a similar folder in the AppData tree on Windows. If you download the new version it will still get its preferences and saves from that location. The first time you load your save within the newer version the save will be transferred to the newer version to be compatible. In the dump this will result in a message like this:
  Code:
 37564 | Vaults:2 | Upgraded the game from 0.14-a0-1773-ge500af7 to 0.14-a0-1811-gdc2d5af

Then you can keep playing your save as if it has always been this version of crawl. I transfer my characters usually two times or more to a newer version over the course of a game.

Play stable releases. :p
Draining sucks...destroys your skills and makes you fight 300 stone cyclop draconian guardians of Zot.

Re: Draining takes to long to wear off

Does consuming royal jelly, which generally works as food + Restore Abilities potion, also restore draining?

New draining is great and much more dangerous.

Then you have a bad memory. Royal jelly does not remove draining, only the potion.

The Royal Jelly will probably remove draining effects when you kill it.
