Re: Fire Dragon on D10 - bug?

Why would this be a bug? That dragon is only barely out of depth; you can get stone giants on D:10 if you're unlucky.

Yes, I said. Unfortunately I don't enjoy other roguelikes as much (I tried several best ones).

Game can get very frustrating sometimes, but it does seem to blow away most/all competition. :x

The game simply punished you for saying you would take a break. By spawning a fire dragon.

Re: Fire Dragon on D10 - bug?

Or welcoming him back with a taste of what (IMHO) keeps us all addicted to DCSS, the brutality, unlike most games, it really sticks it to us, touches that place in us that makes us want to fight back, you know? I personally am so sick of games that hold your hand and make sure every phase is easy/simple without effort for even people who dont like to try hard, or think about things. I love how you have to be vigilant, every single moment, or theres a good chance youre gonna get "reminded". <3 DCSS

*edit* not just that though, DCSS has so much depth, without "trying too hard". its such an awesome balance between difficulty and (player)responsibility and personality. ive played video/computer games my whole life and other than diablo/D2/LOD(when i was a lot younger) i dont think ive ever been quite as taken with a game.

Fire dragon on D:10 is nothing special.

One of minmay's old vaults has placed unseen horrors on D:4 at least four times to date. And one wolf spider.

Re: Fire Dragon on D10 - bug?

To make it clear the monster was not generated randomly (OOD), it was placed by the vault. As Fo I could see that all monsters were placed in symmetrical places and one of them was that Fire Dragon, that's why I thought it could be a bug.

Well first of all a tmons is less dangerous than a fire dragon. Anyway it can happen because of a vault or it can happen because of the OOD timer (in the latter case, people routinely get tentacled monstrosities on d:1).

Yeah, a Fire Dragon is more dangerous because of it's ranged ability, but it's still a lot less surprising to see a Dragon on D:10 than a Tentacled Monstrosity considering the latter is usually something you don't see until Vault:5 or Zot, but the Former is commonly found throughout the dungeon.

In what stick fingers posted, that was clearly not an OOD timer since it was only 11541 turn count, so it must have been a vault. What kind of sadistic vault would have that on D:10? @_@

Is there a place where I can see a list of these kind of vaults and what they contain?

Centaur Hunters can kill a lot of out of depth monster with bows - as well as other hunters, even if they can't kite. But... a HaHu on D:4 can't kill a rock throwing cyclops, even if you killed two ghosts, 3 uniques and you have a buckler. I'mstillmad about his damn vault

if you like kiting for XP, try playing a AK with spear, and kiting large abominations (the slow ones). it is specially nice with Draconians, that can get a color before even entering the dungeon.
who am I fooling, this is boring as hell.
my posts are to be read in a mildly playful tone, with a deep, sexy voice.

Well, you mentioned that it would be super-boring in the first words of your post...
