"You Evolve" does what?

Hey, so I recently entered a bazaar and bought a potion of beneficial mutation to drink. It gave me the "You evolve" mutation, but I'm wondering what it does? I've been wearing an amulet of resist mutation that I found, but I don't want it to resist anything good it gives me. So, what kind of mutations can I expect, and should I put the amulet back on? It'll be quite awhile until I fight any mutating monsters, so I shouldn't be in too much danger. Any general advice on my character is welcome too!

Essentially, you gain more mutations. Each one has 50% chance of being good, 50% to be random - so 75% chance to be good.

And the "You evolve" mutation disapear after mutating you a few times (randomly, I think).
If I were you, I would not put this amulet on, as long as you have the Evolving mutation, and would not wander in mutation inducing branches ;)

once I got shoutitis, teleportitis and frail from genetic drifts. I would not use the amulet because I love muts, but you should beware that some muts can break your character.
my posts are to be read in a mildly playful tone, with a deep, sexy voice.

You could listen to the above guys... if you're a wimp. A real hero welcomes any chance for mutations - it's not a true victory unless you exit the dungeon as a twisted, inhuman, fire-breathing monstrosity!

Seems like evolves always disappear right away for me without giving much. Too bad, I love mutations.

I died too quickly to experience any of the mutations. Chock up another "What do you mean you need blnking scrolls" orc knights. I tell you, D:16, lair 1-8, and orc 1-3 should be enough for me to find a third blinking scroll. But nooo, Roxanne camping the swamp downstairs is not cool.

This is a common misconception. "Random mutation" doesn't mean "50% chance of a good mutation and 50% chance of a bad mutation," it means "random mutation," according to the different mutation weights. For a human, a random mutation has a 59% chance to be good. Note that bad mutations are usually much worse than good mutations are good, so randomly mutating still tends to be a bad idea.
Furthermore, evolution is special, and has an extra 1/5 chance of deleting a mutation (attempts to remove a bad mutation but there are multiple ways for it to do otherwise; see function delete_mutation in mutation.cc), and an extra 1/10 chance to delete itself.

Yes. For example, only a species with a tail can mutate a stinger on it.
