What can increase my invisibility success rate? Only "Hexes" or does "Spell Casting" help too?

Spellcasting helps a little, as does Int, but not as much as raising Hexes does, so I'd focus on that.

Dig can help you make a nice stabbing route, especially in conjunction with passwall.

Wrong question. Right question: "when can I afford to divert EXP to Earth so I can make use of this Book of Earth the RNG gave me?"

Answer: when you can reliably kill most mooks with invis-stab, without worrying about Sp hunger. Done right, that should be around the time you clear Lair.

Re: Some Help? ._.

Crate, what magic schools would you learn , besides Hexes/Charms?

I ask because I currently have a SpEn/Ashenzari in Vaults who I think could be my first SpEN win . He got lucky with acquisition and I currently have a +7/+8 elven quickblade.

I'm awesome except in cases where creatures are both exceptionally resistant to enchantments and See Invisible. My melee is actually decent but I feel like I need to be developing a backup plan.
I have a few ranks in many magic skills so that I can get the Ashenzari boost, but haven't really committed to anything.
Character on a different computer, or I'd post it.

Re: Some Help? ._.

There's 2 directions to go for a lategame SpEn:
- Develop some way to kill things that you can't reasonably stab
- Develop ninja ways to never be bothered by what you can't stab

Which do you prefer?

Translocations, by the way, can give you both -- Warp Weapon and, um, other translocations.

Well i have access to all the relevant translocation spells (including Warp Weapon) and it's actually one of my higher magic skills since I wanted Control Teleport, so I'll try that.

I'll just let you see what I did on my spens, which is pretty similar to what I would have done for a regular 3 rune game:

Re: Some Help? ._.

Wow, I just read your characters and they're really not what I expected.
You only worshipped Lugonu (a god I've never even tried) , and you didn't even do (at least with the 2nd character) that until you'd gotten all the way to dungeon level 22, presumably because you needed to get to the abyss to find an altar.
Is it worth it to go without a god for so long?

And you used apportation a ton... I've never used that spell even once. I thought people just used it to ninja runes?

I see you went with a dagger of distortion in both cases; is the dagger (and danger of being banished) why you worshipped Lugonu?

Is the distortion brand the main way you deal with awake, highly resistant, invisible-seeing creatures?

Thanks,
Ken

Re: Some Help? ._.

For a 3 rune game I wouldn't recommend lugonu unless you get a corrupted temple, because like you say you are godless for a long time. I had planned from the start to go into extended on those characters and lugonu is quite good for spen in extended (disto melee and corruption and self-banish).

For a 3 rune game I would normally recommend worshipping kiku, but there are other gods who are also good.

Apportation is useful every time you want to pick up an item that is on a tile other than the one you're standing on. It's not just for runes.

The main way I deal with awake, high-MR, sinv things is by walking away.

Re: Some Help? ._.

Like I said: do you want to kill or do you want to ninja? The latter means not killing things you don't like (things you couldn't stab). There simply comes a point in the lategame where you don't need any more EXP to invis-stab things.
