Skills order for a stalker?

I'd like to win with a Stalker, but I don't know what the best progress for the skills could be: I was thinking to get min delay with short blades, while getting some points in transmutation (until cast evaporate reliably) then training sneaking, stabbing and dodging (in this order).

Could be this a decent order or there is a better one?

Oh, someone can also explain me what use have passwall, dig and pietrify for a sneak - stabber character?

Passwall can move you right next to something you want to stab if he is sleeping next to a wall you can passwall into.

Dig can help with passwalling and is just a good tool regardless.

Unsure about the skill order, but yours seems OK. I'm wondering what cerebov thinks.

So, if If I passwall right next to a enemy, I'm sure he won't wake up, or is there still a sneak check?

How can dig help passwall? Should I use to break walls too tick to passwall, or what?

Re: Skills order for a stalker?

Im sure there's at least one turn in which it checks for sneak, there might be more, someone will have to answer that. Its a lot better then just walking up to them, regardless. The knowledge bot says you get a free turn once you finish passwalling; this leads me to believe they won't wake up.

You can dig out a path behind the enemy you wish to kill if there isn't one already.

Passwall will ensure you get an action before anything else on the other side of the wall once you pass through. So if you passwall and end up directly adjacent to a monster it won't wake up.

Wow, I knew passwall was good for sneaking up to things, but I didn't know THAT factoid.

I'm thinking 'my only stalker win was with Trog and a big sword, I'm not entitled to give any advice here'.

So your only win with a stalker was with a Be who selected the wrong option in the starting screen?

Re: Skills order for a stalker?

Evaporate is overpowered, so stalker is a good starting class even if you do not want to stab. I played with a very succesful Troll stalker - evaporate is really nice with the Troll's bad defenses early on, and evaporating water helps a lot against yactaur packs later. Also, training earth and some transmutations early helped me to cast statue form later (I worshipped Sif Muna). This seemed to be the best start for a statue form casting Troll.

So I guess skill order depends on what do you want to build.

In any case, I think you should train for evaporate as soon as possible, because that spell is very good. The others do not matter so much early, because they are not that reliable, so I usually imporove my attack method instead (with a Troll, a switched to UC after having good success rate with evaporate for a long time - UC ~ 15 maybe).

For stabbers, the problem is that early on you won't have to much potions to affect poison resistant enemies. For me this means that either I play a spriggan (who can just run away and leave every poison resistant enemy behind) or I won't invest to stabbing skills too much because I need some fighting power also.

Spriggan Stalkers of Ashenzari are really fun for me tough - passwall is really nice with Ash. With other stabbers I would go Kiku, and go for the pain dagger with necromancy.

I was actually thinking to do a KoSt of Nemelex: pain dagger is good, but spamming legendary decks is better :D

On the contrary, that sounds like the perfect stalker advice. :)

Blurry Vision mutation is a serious penalty to Stalkers.
