Can someone explain how these guys do it?

elliptic hyperbolic Stabwound 78291 what do these guys have in common? They dominate DCSS. How the heck do they do it?

Are they geniuses?

Do they play a lot of games to train their DC skills?

Basically I'm wondering if its natural talent or DC training that allows them to rack up so many wins.

It was 6 months before I beat DC. Maybe these guys beat it in a week or two?

Do they post here? has anyone talked to them about how they win so much?

They play in super-secret rated-wizmode.

I believe (someone will correct me if I'm wrong) that they have been known to bribe the RNG.

For a start, elliptic and hyperbolic are the same person. That makes the question easier by 25%.

I don't know much about stabwound. elliptic has been the one of the best players for some time and he also recently joined the devteam. 78291 was already a legendary nethack player before he came crawling around.
I don't think any of them comes to the tavern, but they do hang on ##crawl (and ##crawl-dev too for elliptic).

Re: Can someone explain how these guys do it?

You need not so terribly much knowledge of the game. For example, strange as it will sound, I play mostly unspoiled. I never rely on the knowledge bots (monster damage etc.), for example. The price you pay is fewer wins. It is obvious to me that better players would win all, or almost all, of the games I lose from the midgame onwards.

2. is crucial, of course, and unfortunately related to having some (or a lot) of discipline and patience.

I notice with the streaks they change species and class a lot. I think if they just stuck to DDNe or CeHe every time they could pull off huge streaks. But it may be boring lol
