Su antiskillrobin

What's the best species and god for character who trains nothing but Summoning?

Gods:
1) Sif Muna. Though its protection from miscast is kind of wasted later
2) Yred/Beough. Attractive because of extra meat shield and you don't care about XP penalty anyway
3) Gozag. Good only for Mu/Sp probably.

Species:
1) Fe (aptitude 0) can escape and has gourmand, though I am not sure how long it can live without Dodging/Fighting.
2) Te (2) has excellent aptitude in summoning
3) Mu (-2). Good synergy with Sif Muna/Gozag.
4) Sp (-2). Excellent escape and synergy with Gozag.
5) Gr (-1). Intrinsic AC.
6) HO (0). Beough.

Thoughts?

Re: Su antiskillrobin

Gozag on a summoner is awful.
Never pick Beogh if your not training axes.
Not sure why Gr if you plan to hide behind your summons.
Sp will have food issues unless you go gozag.

I assume you gonna be training invo/evo.
You shall never see my color again.

Re: Su antiskillrobin

Sounds terrible. Why would you do this to yourself?

But, if you absolutely insist, Yred seems like a decent choice, as he seems to win a 3 rune game on his own anyway.
Who cares about aptitude? You're not going to be training anything else, I don't think it's going to be that important honestly.
Maybe a draconian? Then you'll have a breath attack even without any skill, which can be useful, and the free AC will probably come in handy.

My main recommendation is to not torture yourself in this way though.

1. Why?
2. Why?
3. To survive bolts.
4. Oh, true. Almost 0 spellcasting means full hunger.

5. Other skills can be trained only after Summoning has reached 27.

Aptitude is still important because I would not like to fight late game monsters while still training Summoning.
Oh, I forgot about draconians, can be good and fun indeed.

Re: Su antiskillrobin

No invo means you have no purpose picking up a god other than gozag and xom.
Beogh wont do shit for you, your game will be just a bunch of orcs dying all the time because you cant protect them(you cant tell your orcs to retreat and your summons to attack, for example).
Gozag on summoners means you just ditched the gold distraction feature and that you gonna spend all your gold funding book and food shops.
You shall never see my color again.

What about Ash? Can you stop training when boosted skill is 27 instead of base? Is transfer knowledge ok?

Unless it was changed in trunk Ash does nothing for skills with 0 levels so I think it is not good for the challenge. Transfer would be a no-no.

Actually, Ash gives a small boost to 0 skills in trunk. Like 0.7 ish, which scales up quickly.

How about Nemelex (obviously nor so powerful with Evo 0, but still useful and you could train Evo later) or Ru (I've only tried Ru once so I don't really know)?

GrSu^Sif

0 skill channeling is fine. Gr is pretty survivable with the AC bonus and good resists. Unfortunately all the channeling and eating the entire dungeon will be pretty frustrating.

It's more the eating after channeling that I find frustrating, or during battles. Summoners just take forever to play in general.

True, there is no tab for summoners ;) Eating is done automatically too by the way. I don't like to eat during battles either but it does not happen often, it's usually safer to retreat and reset the fight.

Re: Su antiskillrobin

Other races that are worth considering:

DE: High Int will help with hunger costs and allow you to get up to level 3 spells of other school online with no training. Additionally if you use Spellcasting as your second skill, they'd be able to cast most level 6 spells at low spellpower with just spellcasting; because of the Int. (Deflect Missiles and Haste Help; also if you pick Bows as second skill good chance of 0 skill PProj through summons).

HE: Similar note to DE, just not frail and not AS high of Int.

Te: Mostly just highest Apt for Summoning means you can train something else earlier.

Ko: Carnivore III helps. (Fe-- has same summoning apt and Carnivore III too; but do you really want to play a cat AND additional challenge)?

Other gods to consider:

Chei: Int boost will let you use non-summoning spells at 0 skill; STR boost will let you cast in heavier armour without training armour.
Fedhas/Yred: More Thralls; basically. With 0 Invo mushrooms aren't that strong, but their Confusion Melee always has a chance to work.
Jiyva: Doesn't use Invo so you could easily use Slimify if you needed it. Good mutations could help.
Okawaru: Make a 0 Skill weapon into a 5 Skill weapon. (Heroism has good chance of working at 0 Invo; Finesse, not so much).
Ru: Doesn't use Invo, gives you more abilities you don't have to train for.
Xom: Good mutations; long time with enemies in LoS means better chance of positive action.
I'm beginning to feel like a Cat God! Felid streaks: {FeVM^Sif Muna, FeWn^Dithmenos, FeAr^Pakellas}, {FeEE^Ashenzari, FeEn^Gozag, FeNe^Sif Muna, FeAE^Vehumet...(ongoing)}

As far as I know, hunger is reduced by int * spellcasting, so high int won't do anything if spellcasting is still 0.

Summoner start is low, but non-zero Spellcasting. I'm not Wizmoding it this second, but with DE's 3! apt it's probably 3-4.

Re: Su antiskillrobin

Probably with antiskill Robin I'd go with Ce - your defence will be little worse than other races at 0 skill but you can run from anything, don't have so much problem like Sp with food and after summoning you can train Fighting to get lots of hp.
Probably mu is kinda decent.

Ru probably is most solid, as it gives very good benefit for a challenge like that and you can sacrifice lot of things you probably won't use anyway (like some skills).

Btw with antiskillrobin is allowed to use things you don't have trained skill yet (like tab?)
screw it I hate this character I'm gonna go melee Gastronok

It was VSAr of Ru with 2 maxed stats (Evo and Fighting).

Got lucky with loot, labyrinth being the turning point:
3316 | D:3 | Identified the +2 leather armour "Lohyosy" {rPois+ Slay+5} (You found it on level 4 of the Dungeon)

12691 | Lab | Identified a +4 rod of clouds (14/14) {!a} (You found it in a labyrinth)

Now that I look my actions with Ru compared to what I sacrificed...
Power Leap | | | | 1 | | | | | || 1
Apocalypse | | | | | | | 2 | 3 | 5 || 10
Draw Out Power | | | | | | | 1 | 1 | 2 || 4

..then I gotta say, yes, Nemelex would have been better.

don't knock antiskillrobin tab 'till you've tried it

Assuming you don't want to cheese through the first half of the game with fedhas I really think sif is the best god for this conduct; channeling is nuts with summoning, the amnesia is good for managing your low spell slots, and you don't really want to be stuck with just your starting book when you aren't allowed to train anything else. Mu/Gh/Vp is most convenient since you will be getting full spell hunger all game and that's really annoying (and summoning with channeling basically gets rid of everything that makes Mu bad), but if you are playing a Summonings antiskillrobin you must want to be annoyed in the first place.
If you want to use a god that isn't sif, it'd basically come down to the generic good ones except for kiku and trog. I do not understand at all why you would want yred, beogh, or gozag.

yred, beogh - To make the game more interesting and have an extra panic button (Recall allies as extra meat shield in case I am almost out of MP and cannot escape).
gozag - for potions in case I go with Mu.

I will try Dr of Sif Muna first.

I think it should be Mu of Sif Muna, Dr has problems with hunger: due to spellcasting 2 I have low MP and high hunger so I channel mana too often and need to eat during battles.

Why no Dr? anything else cant train armor to negate the armor penalties, and Dr has +1 HP apt and scales to make up for no armour. Maybe not the strongest choice in the game, but probably stronger than HO.

   Skills:
 - Level 2.1 Dodging
 - Level 3.0 Stealth
 - Level 2.0 Spellcasting
 + Level 25.8 Summonings

You have one spell level left.
You know the following spells:

Your Spells              Type           Power        Failure   Level  Hunger
c - Summon Horrible Thin  Summ           ########..   2%          8    #######
v - Summon Lightning Spi  Summ/Air       ######..     1%          4    ####...
x - Monstrous Menagerie   Summ           ########..   1%          6    #######

Despite the awful equipment (I had also a baazar -.-) very close to get summon at 27, I wonder what second skill train next. I'd choose either between:
- spellcasting: more spell slots so I can actually get some utilities spell, less failure rate for lower spell so I can learn most good lv.3- spells, some more mp which isn't really bad
- fighting: ek, so I could get some hp, I'm used to get 90hp before Lair, not in Vaults!
screw it I hate this character I'm gonna go melee Gastronok

Re: Su antiskillrobin

I would go for Spellcasting even as Dr, as VS it is even better as it serves as HP too. With 19 MP you will have problems killing fast enough IMHO.

Oops. Then I don't know, Vp cannot die to starvation. It's up to you, both options are good. I was lucky to find 2 rings of +9 MP in shops in my game (and I bought one because I couldn't cast another monster menagerie due to cap anyway).

Re: Su antiskillrobin

There's XL 15 GrSu of Ru in CSZO trunk that has cleared Lair, Orc and D:15. Clearing things solely with Ice Beasts and Shadow Creatures.

- Summonings at 22
- Staff of Power to have even slightly tolerable amount of MP
- Some decent melee for weaker shit and good evasion from rings
- Sacrificed: Armour, Stealth, Courage, Arcana (air/necro/charms), Potions (ouch)
- Every basic resistance for a Gargoyle in an artifact robe

I would definitely pick up Spellcasting for the next skill. Game has spawn every good summoning spell there is available.
Dragon's Call, Grand Grimoire, Book of Summonings..
There's also 2 book shops with good backup spells and shitloads of gold coz Orc shops were a disappointment.

If the next player wants to get Fighting, so be it. I wouldn't with these things available for picking Spellcasting.
I wont play it anymore or I'll get my left hand numb too.

*had to edit god dammit!!! that Arcana sacrifice pretty much wipes out all backup spells.. well.. do you need much backup when you have Dragons' Call, Monstrous Menagerie and Summon HT for a 3 rune game? :D

Mine's done. Hugh the pain, in the long run it's annoying like hell. Probably worse than a Mu, with that pointless food clock to take care! And quite few experience, I hoped to get at least some fighting but no, I couldn't even max spellcasting...
This conduit should be forced on new players who overtrain skills, especially suboptimal like spellcasting or shield: I haven't got a skill with flat apt to 27 since looong time, it's insane to actually test how much exp it eats to get over lv.20!
screw it I hate this character I'm gonna go melee Gastronok

Re: Su antiskillrobin

If your allowed to use sensible skill training after your first skill hits 27, the polearm one is easy. However, Mf polearm apt is far from flat...

I achieved greatplayer in less than a year.

No, after reaching 27 with the first skill you just have to train another skill to 27.

That still sounds like MfGl could be pretty easy. Polearms->dodging.

It should be easy as antiskill games go. It's been done once already btw.

You can have Polearms maxed way before you reach Lair:8 and Dodging will be very high after you got 2 runes. I'd go Fighting as 2nd skill but it's certainly doable with Dodging too.

Re: Su antiskillrobin

Yes, plate armour and scrolls of enchant armour make Dodging redundant. Why don't we have a body armour which gives +10 EV and can give even more when enchanted with corresponding scrolls? :)

GrSu^Ru done.

Not surprisingly all the fast enemies caused all the worst situations. Shrikes, spriggan defenders, oof:s... Also deep troll earth mages are no fun for a gargoyle without Fighting skill. Ancient lich LRD:d me once at 90HP. Again I forgot about their variable spellset. I wonder if a bad RNG roll could have killed me instantly there? I'm under the impression it would have been possible.

Kinda tedious experience but at least I had to be on my toes during the entire game.

Re: Su antiskillrobin

Ancient Lich does 3d37 with Throw Icicle/Bolt of Cold, 3d39 with Fireball, 9d10 with OoD when adjacent, 3d33 with Bolt of Draining, its Battlesphere deals 2d21, full range OoD does 9d20, Poison Arrows does 3d34.
I failed to get any LCS or Iron Shots in 100+ tries, have they been removed?

I don't understand this:

  Code:
The ancient lich points at you and mumbles some strange words.
The orb of energy hits you!
Rolled 61 for 3d30

Is it IMB?

Edit. Acid:
  Code:
The bolt of acid hits you!
Rolled 35 for 3d28
* * * LOW HITPOINT WARNING * * *
Rolled 3 for 2d4
The acid corrodes you!
Rolled 11 for 4d5
The acid burns!

It was during a single turn. 2d4 is corrosion, 35+11 was damage.

Edit2. Usual lich.
  Code:
The lich points at you and mumbles some strange words.
