what the hell was that?

I'm trying to identify the monster that nearly killed me.

It was in (or near?) a mini-vault on D:24. (The vault was a sort of checkerboard of lava and not-lava, and was full of giants and orc knights.)

It could cast OoD and bolt of cold.

It was invisible.

There were Liches and deep troll casters on that floor, but according to the wiki none of those can cast invisibility, bolt of cold, and OoD.

The only source of see invis in my entire game is the obsidian axe, so I don't have any particular way to see the damn thing.

What is it?

Probably Boris.

I was fighting a bunch of other dudes so I didn't even notice he was there until the OoD blasted me in the face. Luckily my MiFi can cast swiftness and blink, so I was able to escape. Scary!

After you kill Boris, he will very likely come back on a different floor (for reference). So it was probably really him.

He escaped, so Boris wouldn't appear again on any other level. Lich spell set 4 has all of these spells, so most likely it was it.

Until you run out of floors he can spawn on.

The correct answer is 0. Then put an exclusion on him. Or go to all the floors you're planning on seeing that Boris can spawn on, then go back and kill him and you'll never see him again.

About Boris, do you get XP each time you kill him, or only the first ?

And before the Depths integration, there was roughly 25 levels where he could spawn, so getting 20 times his XP could be nice (assuming you don't simply die farming him)...

Well, I killed him once, I can kill him 25 times,as long as I don't get unlucky ... except it's Crawl ... :/
