Crawl Bonus Tournament

About
The Crawl Bonus Tournament is a short Crawl competition (maximum possible playtime is 12 hours). It's run by me and is not affiliated with any developers or server operators.

Entering
To enter, just put the line
  Code:
# CRAWLBONUS
anywhere in your online Crawl account's options file. You must enter prior to 01:00 UTC on June 27th, 2019; after that time, new entries cannot be made and existing entries cannot be revoked.

Accounts will not be scored if they are used for advertising, have been used for advertising in the past, contain particularly grotesque language, or appear to belong to people who have already entered with another account (one person, one entry).

Rules
The Crawl Bonus Tournament is based on "challenges". Complete a challenge and you get the points for it. An example of a challenge:
Pakellas Challenge
Points: 2
Combo: DgAr
In-game timer limit: 3:00:00
Restrictions: You may not memorize any spells.
You receive the points for a challenge by playing one of its eligible species/background combo(s) online and picking up a rune other than the Abyssal rune, while obeying all of the challenge's restrictions. Your in-game time must also be no greater than the challenge's in-game time limit. Remember that you can save the game to stop the in-game timer.

If you play a species/background combo that is eligible for a challenge, and you die, violate that challenge's restrictions, or exceed its in-game time limit before picking up the rune, you fail that challenge and do not receive any points for it. After picking up the rune, you are free to die, break the restrictions, or exceed the time limit; nothing you do after getting the rune will affect your scoring.

The player(s) to receive the most points will win the Crawl Bonus Tournament. It is likely that multiple players will win, as the rules are intentionally designed to make ties likely.

The following servers are eligible: crawl.akrasiac.org, crawl.beRotato.org, crawl.kelbi.org, crawl.develz.org, underhound.eu, CRAWL.XTAHUA.COM, webzook.net, lazy-life.ddo.jp, crawl.project357.org.
Games must be played in either 0.23 (stable) or 0.24-a (trunk); games played in older versions will not count.
Each player may only attempt 4 challenges, and each challenge may only be attempted once. Once you have started 4 eligible characters, any further characters you start will be ignored.

Time
The Crawl Bonus Tournament begins at 01:00 UTC on June 27th, 2019; games started before this time will not count as challenge attempts. The tournament ends at 01:00 UTC on July 7th, 2019; challenges not completed by this time will be considered failed.

Prizes
The winner(s) will get a cool banner image that they can put in their forum signatures or whatever.

Full list of challenges

Pakellas Challenge
Points: 2
Combo: DgAr
In-game timer limit: 3:00:00
Restrictions: You may not memorize any spells.

Origin Challenge
Points: 2
Combo: HuFi or HuWz
In-game timer limit: 2:00:00
Restrictions: None.

Incompetence Challenge
Points: 2
Combo: HaTm
In-game timer limit: 3:00:00
Restrictions: You may not train Long Blades, Short Blades, Slings, or Throwing.

Sludge Elf Challenge
Points: 4
Combo: DETm
In-game timer limit: 3:00:00
Restrictions: You may not enter the Snake Pit, the Swamp, the Shoals, the Spiders' Nest, the Vaults, Hell, or Pandemonium. This means you must get the slimy rune.

Ogre Challenge
Points: 4
Combo: OgVM
In-game timer limit: 3:00:00
Restrictions: You may not enter the Lair of Beasts.

Naga Challenge
Points: 4
Combo: NaMo
In-game timer limit: 3:00:00
Restrictions: You may not worship a god.

Skill Challenge
Points: 4
Combo: Any mummy except zealots (MuBe, MuAK, MuCK)
In-game timer limit: 3:00:00
Restrictions: You may only train one skill.
I recommend using manual skill training mode for this challenge, because auto skill training will turn on newly available skills, which can easily lead to you failing the challenge.
Yes, you lose if you are forced to train another skill because your chosen skill reached 27. Grinding won't help you here!
Only your innate skill levels count for this challenge; the fake levels from Heroism / Ashenzari skill boost / crosstraining do not disqualify your character. Draining doesn't count either.

Unskill Challenge
Points: 4
Combo: Any berserker except GnBe
In-game timer limit: 3:00:00
Restrictions: You may only train skills that are on the right side of the skill screen (spell skills, Evocations, Invocations, and Stealth).
As with the Skill Challenge, fake skill levels from Heroism etc. don't count. Yes, abandoning Trog is allowed (but probably not a good idea).

Chaos Challenge
Points: 8
Combo: MuCK
In-game timer limit: 3:00:00
Restrictions: You may not leave Xom.

Kobold Challenge
Points: 8
Combo: KoWn
In-game timer limit: 3:00:00
Restrictions: You may not use potions or scrolls.

Speed Challenge
Points: 8
Combo: SpAr
In-game timer limit: 0:30:00
Restrictions: You may not worship Jiyva.

Once again: each player may only attempt 4 challenges, and each challenge may only be attempted once. Therefore, the maximum possible score is 28 points (complete all three 8-point challenges and one 4-point challenge). The minimum possible score is 0 points.

So don't delay; enter now! And come the 27th, have fun, good luck, and don't get too cocky!

Re: Crawl Bonus Tournament

Is it in the spirit of this tournament to practice (or do evaluate runs of) the challenges before the tournament starts?

Does Ashenzari's curse item ability counts as the usage of the remove curse scroll? And Gozag's potion petition counts as usage of potions?

That's completely fine.

No to both. The challenge is based on the "potionsused" and "scrollsused" fields, which potion petition, curse item, Xom, etc. don't increment.

Nope. You can worship Jiyva. It's only a 4-point challenge.

The Crawl Bonus Tournament officially started a number of hours ago, but I was in the toilet, so I didn't post about it then. Let's get the ball rolling!

Re: Crawl Bonus Tournament

Do you have any advice on how to quickly get Jiyva piety? (Mostly for the Sprigan challenge, but also for Sludge Elf & co)

Re: Crawl Bonus Tournament

Taking Jiyva on the Speed Challenge will break the restrictions and cause you to get 0 points, so I don't recommend that.

You can typically cap Jiyva piety right away by going to previously beaten levels and letting jellies eat all the items there.

Re: Crawl Bonus Tournament

Uhm, it seems I forgot to register in time :-(
According to my initial attempts I would not have scored a single point though anyway...

Thanks for the cool challenges!

Re: Crawl Bonus Tournament

Just go to Orc if you''ve cleared it and spawn some jellies; you'll hit max piety almost immediately.

So, ehm, what exactly happened?

Nobody completed anything?!

Did more than four people participate?
