0.20 release and tournament

Some details in this post. The 0.20 rules page will be available hopefully sometime this week, and I'll update this thread with a link. Feel free to coordinate teams in this thread or discuss any rule changes you'd like to see.

Update: The 0.20 tournament page is online. Also see a few notes in this post. Best of luck in the tourney, everyone!

Yay tourney! Happy days!

A couple of releases ago I 'captained' a casual clan for players who'd like to group and encourage each other but don't want to feel pressured regarding amassing points and being competitive. I'd like to do the same again, assuming anyone is interested. Call it Casual Tavern Casuists or something (better suggestions welcome). Please register your interest here.

@Moanerette I mostly play offline these days, but would not mind going online and joining a casual clan for a change. By the way, I think we have already played in the same clan once, in 0.15 tournament.

Gylphic here; or Placid on cbro and cao.

Normally I team up with a friend, but life is too busy these days. I'm looking for a clan and trying for 3 wins this time around- I'm excited for .20, but a little rusty!

I'll be reforming my clan, and while the first slots will go to returning players from previous clans, there's usually an open slot or two. Prefer players who can get at least a few wins, although we aren't super strict about racking up thousands of points. I did manage to win the team competition for .17, although honestly that was an unexpected surprise.

Anyone looking for a clan member who is distinctly average (I play as strat on CBRO, generally -- usually win 3-4 games/tourney), I'm in. For whatever reason, I find being in a clan, even when I don't know the others, adds to the tourney feel for me (gives me other games to care about, I guess).

I'd be interested in a casual to moderate clan spot. Particularly if some people are on CPO (Australia).

I play as loopi. I'm not especially fast at finishing, but got a few banners last time (and sometimes a win or two).

If I simply play the 0.20 version without a clan or any addtion to the .rc file during the tournament, will I still be classified in individual player standings? Or do I have to register myself somehow?

No additional actions are needed if you only care about individual stats.

I would still like to find a clan...

I'll just probably be playing on the Australian or Japanese servers cause that is where I lag least.

@Moanerette I'd be interested in joining your clan. I mostly play on CBRO, sometimes on CAO. I don't have any better clan name ideas.

Or, if there's more interest in a casual clan than can be accommodated in one, I'd be happy to split off a second one. I captained one several tourneys ago -- 0.17 maybe? Of course, then we'd have to come up with a second name... :)

[Edit: Apparently I had a clan in 0.16. I didn't think it was quite that long ago!]

Me (MDvedh) and my mate HungrySpirit are interested in joining a clan
We are somewhat experienced players and we might be called good or bad players depending on who you ask :)
We are usually finish somewhere around 50th place in individual scoring.
If there is a clan who will not consider us exerting too much of goodplayerpressure (lol) neither being a burden dragging along with our microscores, please let me know!
Funny clan name highly appreciated!

Alright, I will set up Openmic Octopode Sextet tonight. There's no Tavern reference in the name, I just like it. If anyone hates it then say so and we'll change.

I play on mainly CBRO and sometimes CAO. I've won twice in over 800 online games. No-one is 'too crap' or 'too rusty' to group with me.

Please confirm 1) Your name on the list is the name you play under 2) That you want to be in this casual tea-sippin' felid-strokin' Chei-lovin' Ash-smokin' clan

Moanerette
Wark
christhawk
(MDvedh?)
(HungrySpirit?)
(stoneychips?)

1. I play as loopi.

2. I'm interested! 8-)

By the way, how do we do this business now:

I know this goes at the top of the rcfile, but do you have to actually type it outside in another file and then drop it in now?

# TEAMCAPTAIN nameofcaptain

You can't just type a line into a text box online anymore? Do I have that right? (Slightly surprised is all.)

I'm in! I do play under christhawk.

@stoneychips, I didn't have any trouble on CBRO, but it could be different by server. I haven't gone to CAO yet. I also copy/paste my rcfile from trunk every time I start a new version, so that could have something to do with it, too.

And it's a good thing this is nice and casual. I've been playing since 0.4 or 0.5, and I have yet to win. I've gotten 3 runes multiple times, finally, so maybe I'm getting somewhere! (The Rune of Zot is so close I can almost taste it. Wait.... probably shouldn't lick the Rune of Zot....)

Hmm, you're right, it does look like it is different depending on the server now.

I peeked back at CAO and there is a still a pre-filled file with content that you can type in.

On CPO, there's just a blank field you're apparently supposed to drag and drop a file with new stuff into. (Blah. Heh.)

If anyone else wants to join a team, I'm starting one.

Corpulent Orb is the team name. I play as bazoo on cbro and I will be the captain. Respond below or message me if you are interested; players of all skill levels welcome.

edit: for reference, clan sign-up is open until 6/2

Hey devs, please consider giving more points for collecting Tier-3 banners.
I think +100pt for collecting every Tier-3 banners seems good. (In 0.19, http://dobrazupa.org/tournament/0.19/players/cosmonaut.html did this)

In 0.19, I was strongly motivated by collecting Tier3 banners... (failed though) and maybe I'll try that again.

I'm terribly sorry for the inconvenience, but could you please leave my nickname as Wark, with "W" at the beginning? I initially thought I had forgotten the password for that account and did not want to bother with password reset before the tournament, but I managed to get access to it after all.

I've settled on W_a_r_k. Your .rc file at CAO is correct.

amaril, do you have to play on CBRO? Else, I'd like to join if possible. I'm going to play as Salix on crawl.jorgrun.rocks.

Edit: Or salix, the server doesn't seem to care for capital letters though I doubt it matters.

Celesta, you're in. It doesn't matter which server you play on. As a reminder, I'll be playing as bazoo. Right now my rc is

Do you guys chat or something during the tournament? I doubt there's much in the way of clan strategy, but I wouldn't know.

Speaking for myself though I'm not in the same gaggle: I don't know if many people generally worry about it, besides maybe peeking at each other's games and banners... It's just nice to have some compatriots listed for general encouragement/interest, though.

A few things you might want to keep an eye on if you bring up other clan members' tournament pages: You can look out for uniques no one has killed yet, deities no one has won with, and just possibly species/background combos that are not getting much play (although those aren't worth so much in the grand scheme, as I understand it).

tbh i have no idea what strategy is the best, but viewtopic.php?f=5&t=23669 seems like it has some decent advice. my plan is to streak if possible, probably starting off with easy combos before they become worthless. also i might spectate teammembers' games if i'm bored/losing a lot.

Same! I've done some planning for the tournament. Sadly, the plan relies on me winning games.

I usually take a while winning, and streaks feel way out there to me... But it can be fun to try and get a few banners, or just try to do something new too!

How often do the clan pages update? I played a game on CPO that lasted almost 30 min, and I don't see anything showing up yet. I did force save it a couple times, and I can see the death report in my morgue.

Teamcaptain in my file matches what you have there above.

Does it matter if "teamcaptain" is capitalized, if the Moanerette is capitalized etc.?

I feel quite honored being in a clan with mdevdh (and rather dizzy too?)... A top tier Speed Demon. :o

And here, I just spent almost 2 hours just conducting guerrilla operations to finally get the serpentine rune with this amateur spriggan. But I got it dammit. Mine!

And got to play with a lot of slaying (and berserk, and harm) toward the end. 8-)

Awww, thanks for organizing the clan. 8-)

I was hoping to do better than I did -- the halfling archer with harm was rocking until the third rune problem. But it was a nice, active group and I was amazed to be in with some people who really know how to blow through the levels fast. One of these years I should learn, but who knows.
