I had a very rough time in mid game - mashing tab brought me to some nasty situations, especially in Shoals where I could've easily died at least two times, with a highlight being berserking with 4 HP against an aquamancer 3 tiles away. This isn't a particularly fast run and many things could've been done faster, even while keeping exploration ratio high, but it's still my fastest win real time-wise, beating my previous best time (also a MiBe) by around 50 minutes.

Tier 1. To be honest, I've been getting exhausted of Crawl lately, I think I've overplayed it - now I have quite a few wins so the initial thrill of hoping to win a character or two (and later, do the same in extended) has kind of faded, and now deaths are getting kind of frustrating, which is why I only had that one (Tier 2) try last challenge. I also tend to play sloppily and not spend as much time on risky situations as I should be (my OpAK death was completely avoidable, I just couldn't be arsed to retreat and do the optimal play). I'm sure I just need to take a break for a few weeks or months though and I'll find Crawl fun once again. Until then, though, this challenge is just perfect, since it encourages playing sloppy and fast. Since I've already had a sub-3hr win, I'm going to try and go beyond the allotted time limits, and do a kind of half-hearted speedrun - that is, win as fast as possible without actually bothering to optimize beyond "save and quit when I go AFK".

Tier 2. Found that nice armor behind a runed door in Lair which I dared to open because I'm a MiBe. Trog finally started giving me nice weapons. I just need rPois now, so I'm going to Orc. Tier 3. Tier 2 is automatic since the win took less than 2 hours, and I hope you'll believe me that I reached Lair in less than 45 minutes.

I pushed this character harder than necessary in an attempt to beat my real-time record, but I played too cautiously due to no permanent source of MR for most of the game. Other than that, my luck was ridiculous (check the gear), including getting manuals of armour and dodging, and the two easiest Lair branches IMO.

That artefact crystal plate is pretty good, but the armour of the dragon kin does give a pip of MR and some other resists besides. Is it worth 7 AC? Duvessa doesn't think so, but for a character around 50 AC it seems pretty marginal.

but now that you bring it up, i'd wear the cpa over dragon king yeah; it's 9 more AC and maybe a point of EV or two + damage

With cautious play on a non-speedrun I would have gone with the CPA, but the MR from Dragon King made me a lot more comfortable tabbing through Depths and Zot:5, and I knew I could win with either. If I had found a ring of MR I would have switched.

And yeah, my luck was obscene.
