No sign up necessary, just post if you did something.

It was pointed out last week that Tier3 doesn't necessarily imply Tier1 and 2, so from this point onwards I am going to list each tier achieved per player and maybe tab some points out for each. Some players didn't say whether they got tier1/2 last week while achieving a higher tier, so I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt for now.

For the record, I did get tier 1, 2, and 3 on the same character, although I'm too lazy to find the dumps for tier 1/2.

Also, can we read ID scrolls or does teleporting on a cleared floor when read IDing scrolls break the challenge? because otherwise it is almost a no tele/no scrolls challenge.

Either that or start scum until you read ID before tele and ID all scrolls before you read them until you read tele.

Cool. Glad that worked out then.

I'll say your first read-ID is alright, so long as you didn't use it in a situation that would give you a tactical advantage. Use your own discretion for this. I have no way to really judge this achievement except player honesty, so I'm relying on that here.

Tier 1 and I don't expect myself to get anywhere further than that. Vehumet takes forever to gain piety with.

for the record I haven't start scummed to read ?ID on ?tele. I'm having trouble getting to XL 2 with this combo, I would consider it an achivment if I won the combo even If I did spam tele.

I watched Clownie's valiant efforts and I must say watching this challenge is much more entertaining than doing it yourself. After experiencing close to thirty attempts, both mine and his, I can give these tips for early game:

- Get used to the idea that even a kobold or a goblin can kill you in melee. Never fight more than one enemy at a time, always start with a barrage of Magic Darts and poison breath, rest to full HP/MP/Breath between each fight. Any non-negative weapon is better than unarmed with no stats and training.
- Call Imp is the best level 2 spell in your book for early survival, three imps will likely do more damage than 6 Magic Darts and you can use them to block the way too. Their usefulness still falls off very fast, but they're helpful for the first few levels even with no investments in Summoning.
- Mephitic Cloud is very useful if you didn't already know, rush it if no better options are available.
- Don't bother with reducing Repel Missiles spell failure, you don't have XP to spare for this.
- As far as skills go, Spellcasting + Conjurations is the way to go. Bump up Stealth to +++ fast, ++++ if you have experience to spare.
- The challenge largely depends on what you find, with an early Transmutation book and Chei altar being a definite jackpot. Even without Chei Sticks to Snakes is a good spell to have, much better than Call Imp.
- No other gods than Chei seem to kick off fast enough as you'll be probably resting a lot between fights.
- Assuming average drops, magic seems to be a better option than melee for getting to Lair.
- Potions of lignification are actually your friends in this challenge.

I'd really love to see a better player's take on this though.

Yeah I'm a little surprised. I'm by no means a great player but I was still able to get a NaWz somewhat off the ground first try in csdc. Was a strong char up until I got banished on d:7 by a cruel twist of fate. My recommendation is call imp + poison spit + switch to a melee weapon. The notele nerf definitely makes it harder, but I can't really remember using any in my game. Not sure Chei is the best god either, but that's a common topic of contention.

I tried again, got a character rolling, cleared Lair, had a decent chance to get 2 runes, then a funny vault on D:14 happened, I reacted too late in a wrong way and I couldn't handle losing 40+ HP per turn, so I'm still at Tier 1. I think I'm too mad to try again but we'll see.

What got me through early game was a D:2 Nemelex altar - the guy apparently gifts you decks even if you don't progress with piety too much. Pumping Evocations early had a bonus effect of having a potent wand of confusion which, along with two decks of war, saved me numerous times. Lair was mostly Mephitic Cloud into Ignite Poison; by the end of it I could win a straightforward 1 on 1 with hydra in melee and there was a randart ice dragon armor waiting in Orc:2 I was about 100 gold short of buying, so I hope you can understand my frustration.

Tier 2. It's a new character but you can't achieve tier 2 without also achieving tier 1 unless you dive into depths and get runes from Pan and Hell without visiting Lair for some reason, so yeah.

An early short sword of electrocution carried me throughout earlygame, and a naga barding of flying was a great find. I also got Snakebite on Lair:8, which is amazing, but I don't have it on me in this dump because why would you bring Snakebite to clear Swamp and Snake?
