Interesting to hear from someone who likes casting in statue form, despite the slow. I can see the appeal, but never did it myself. I noted that the trademark means you refuse melee skills, but I just thought I'd point out that, were you interested in being optimal/safe/whatever, unarmed in statue form is so strong you don't really need much or any unarmed skill to use it effectively. I've seriously killed things in vaults with <5 skill, but that is a chei character with high stats. Since you're a DE with 7 str I assume you'll probably need to train unarmed to level 10 or so. But even so, with 10 skill I bet you'd deal good damage.

Here's one example where I did this although it was around d:14 (after lair/orc) that I picked up statue form, and started punching with no unarmed skill for the last floor of dungeon and into the lair rune branches: http://dobrazupa.org/morgue/tasonir/mor ... 185823.txt. I turned on unarmed while doing this, but it starts from 0. It reached level 1 when I was level 15; since early levels are so cheap I had unarmed 8 by the time I cleared dungeon floor 15.

I should try a OpEE challenge game where you are free to cast spells early game, but once you find statue form you must kill everything with unarmed and you may never train unarmed. For a slightly easier challenge, allow training unarmed to level X, where X < 10, your choice. I don't think it would be that hard.

I saw that quit come up on IRC at the same time the comborobin game I was playing on CAO tiles crashed. Can two people play on a robin account at the same time? Might that cause a problem?

Two people can play on the same server using the same account as long as they use different versions.

I am afraid Sandman25 might be right.

@Tasonir: I believe that EE is the only spellcaster that might consider statue form early in the game and early game is where it shines the most. I do not think that my character could survive lair branches without statue, as I ran into very unpleasant fights in shoals and spiders. Haste does not allow to outrun everything there and with AC ~9 each pack of harpies was a significant threat. Later, once character got all auxiliary pieces of armour (and some defenses), the form was not appealing anymore.

Regarding unarmed fight, I am not convinced. Statue form significantly benefits from Strength this DE did not have. At 7 STR a demonic weapon could be better. It does not matter; melee skills were not something I missed. There was no popcorn to finish off after single shatter; there were no enemies I'd prefer to fight in melee rather than kill with LRD/Iron shot/second shatter.

In my opinion DEEE is the ultimate spellcaster of crawl. Earth magic provides irresistible spells that require only single school to be efficient. Deep elf provides superior aptitudes and spellcasting. If somebody wants to avoid melee at all, DEEE is my recommendation.

Just parked a DsGl on trunk cszo, D, Lair, Orc and Elves done, no rune yet.

Unlike most my chars he's been quite lucky: after getting fire mut facet (which I hope develop soon into flaming exploding clouds) I bought a +4 flaming longbow for just 90gold on D:4. By Lair, it was a +9 elec longbow (btw, I've just learned elec is avaiable on launcher via ?brand weapon, didn't know that!).
I've also found a nice faith randart amulet, although Oka has been the usual useless unreliable god, who like to gift crap...until I had enough money to buy the armour of dragon king for the reasonable price of 1.6k, after what Oka woke up and in a surge of pride and jealousy dropped a +14 CPA. Oh, a bailey also provided a manual of armour just to be sure.
The things that DS missed till now was a good melee weapon... If not considering there's mnorg dagger in lair, (but I haven't trained necro yet), or a vampiric bardiche right next the exit of the aforementioned baley. However Agnes in Elf kindly provided a lajatang which is now +7 flaming.

In other words, this guy is a powerhouse...he does still miss a stick of haste but there's the spell avaiable. Do whatever you please, but win! :D

When I played a character who couldn't use melee/missiles/wands/scroll/potions I used SpVM of Kiku. Sp for speed, VM for cure poison, Kiku for killing things I couldn't run from.

Hm it doesn't help.
I am using y,u,b,n keys for movement. I don't even open ability screen, I just pres 'b' to move down left, but instead it instantly goes berserking.

Someone started DgTm on CLAN trunk. I beefed it up with some ice beast summoning for both Spider and Swamp. Not a bulldozer in any way except when on Blade Hands of course :) Serious lack of MR. I would still consider this somewhat of a challenge game. Once this guy starts finding some good books, there is no way of stopping him. He will find some, right?

Should've been fine. I let things get out of control with the last two OoFs in the orb chamber. Weirdly bad damage against OoFs... Wanted to finish quickly, but I was distracted on z:5 and did some stupid things =\

But ya, going through zot with an underleveled char is unbelievably grindy and tedious, though not as bad as doing vaults just for xp.

What do you mean "just for xp"? Didn't you want to buy artefact amulet with {rMut, rN++, MR++, rF+, slaying +6} in Vaults 4 shop?

It didn't have a chance to be generated because the character didn't enter Vaults2-5, Crypt1-3, Elf1-3. My point was that it's possible to find an amazing item if you explore all floors you can safely clear.
Also it was possible to survive with extra HP from getting XL 27.

Some time ago, I quit one character which was started by someone else, but was only on D:1 with about a 100 turns.

Anyway, nobody knows why or who quit the DgCj. Could even be by accident. Better to not make random rules based on insufficient data.

Btw, SpEn of Nemelex in Depths on CXC. 2 runes, with arc blade as weapon and warp weapon online. Decks are strewn throughout the dungeon. There are so many that I couldn't pick them up. I used decks less frequently than I imagined, since this character can easily melee even stone giants and titans.

Ya, I bought two other amulets at that shop that I needed for the resist mutation and relec, both of which were definitely necessary. Didn't have gold for the brooch. The problem wasn't xp level or loot, it was overly conservative tactics against the OoFs. I should've chugged potions and rushed them, but instead I tried getting away/finding a position to melee one at a time and I took way more damage doing that than I should have. I made a similar mistake after the second teleport. I thought I could get away from a storm dragon and rest, but I couldn't get away and trying took me too close to an alich without enough hp to deal with both or risk another tele. In reality, there was no way the storm D could kill me. I should have just rushed it.

(Also note that none of this would've happened in current trunk because I would've had controlled blinks.)

To all you Tm lovers out there: If you feel the need to enchant blowguns, leave 3-4 ?EW for weapon treasure troves, please. A tiny bit frustrating to find one and get laughed at by the +9 blowgun in the inventory.

I don't think that's a good idea: it's no way guaranteed that a treasure spawn, and if spawn it asks for a weapon, and if it spawn and ask for a weapon, that weapon does appear in a sensible amount of time, while a well enchanted blowgun is something worth to have from d1 to zot 5 (provided there are needles, ok).

I dont think the difference between +5 and +9 blowgun is that substantial to make the difference, but I am too lazy to fsim it.

Can someone explain to me why the DsGl on cszo can't autoexplore and throws stones instead of approaching when I hit tab? I changed the rcfile to the default and it still does it, did someone set a macro?

Anyway, he has ascended. I changed the macros back to default on trunk since they were a little annoying for me, so you'll have to change them back if you want to be very cautious. Started a DgFi and got him to lair, he has rPois and "rage so he basically cannot die since he is almost a demigod berserker.

Ah, someone took pity on my lengthy attempts to win the CeIE on CAO and finished it. It was a strong character but I was having a lot of trouble with OOFs. Best thing I got from this run was experiencing god wrath (Oka), which I triggered a couple of times by accidentally shooting my own skellies. This was new to me, as I've always been far too scared of wrath to contemplate switching gods, but it was actually perfectly manageable.

CLAN DgTm is now strong as hell. Only concern would be MR++, otherwise it is pretty much unstoppable for 3 rune game.

CSZO trunk DgIE, just got him Swamp and Spider runes.
Kind of a boring game, so be aware of that.

Also someone wasted all the enchant weapon scrolls to get a +9 long blade of nothing {Str+0, Dex+0, Int+0}, and someone else made a +9 DTrident of freezing.

HONe^Kiku on lantea 0.16: +9 battleaxe of pain, wrath of trog, all necro spell you'd want, trained to be a heavy armour guy, but not good plate yet spawned (only +1 rpois), so a bit squishier than he should be at this point - nothing that animate dead and death channel can't solve. Cleared up V:4.

HaWn^Trog on lld, two runes, in early vaults. Skills are in a... transitional... state and armor spawns have been unfavorable. Probably won't get a chance to finish, so if someone feels like cleaning this one up...

Theres a Demigod Transmuter sitting on CLAN, been there for days and blocking trunk. Anybody wants to finish it? I cant stand Tm. Two runes.

That character is a beast! It's way past the point where Tm are annoying to play ;)
I'm on vacation and have a shitty connection (won't be able to play crawl for another 2 weeks) so can't help out.

Except I still have to zx before tabbing for anything group of monsters. Non-perma-forms are super annoying, and we dont have those yet!

As someone who plays transmuters often, I macro 1 to za, 2 to zb, etc... You put your main form on 1, secondary buff on 2 (so stoneskin when using statue form, ozo's in ice, etc). Then have additional buffs in 3/4 (regen, phase shift, repel). Then when a bad fight is coming up you just go 1,2,3,4, and fight. So there's some button presses, but most fights you can get away with just pressing 1-2 of them, unless it's a tough fight and you go for all the buffs.

I wouldn't zx something you're going to use that often :)

I guess even after playing for two years I never put in the 10mins of learning to use macros ( and I cant use numbers since I play with numpad for movement.)

The numbers on the numpad and on the top row can be bound independently IIRC.

Confirmed, I have macro on 7 and it does not prevent me from using numpad for movement.
