Damn, it looks like it's impossible to enter Zot before XL 21 or win without entering Lair because of that tier 2 bonus.

Luckily both of those things are worth more than the Tier II bonus.

Yes, but my (somewhat hidden) point was that it could be useful to know all the combos/tiers in advance. I mean now it's obvious that MfAs should go for Zot before XL 21 and win below 50k turns (because all other combos played so far were much worse for that either because of species or tier bonuses), CeFi should go for no Lair bonus (that was pretty obvious to everyone, right) and GhWr should go for 15 runes. So I feel somewhat bad for getting 15 runes with MfAs and now I am not sure if I should ignore no Lair bonus this round because one of the remaining rounds will allow to get it without giving up tier 2 bonus.

For me it seems like winning the character itself is a challenge enough. Time to get crawling!

Re: CSDC S3 Week 4 - GhWr

Crawl was kind to pay back for previous two characters who had distortion. Found 2 wands of heal wounds, wand of teleportation, wand of hasting and acquirement before Lair
Having AC 25, EV 11 I still decided to enter Lair, without knowing future combos I have no idea if it was a mistake. Found another acquirement on Lair 1, now I am UC fighter with buckler. Yes, I know it sounds stupid but rElec and +6 slaying worth that 0.05 delay IMHO (I am with Ashenzari so after killing several Sheeps I got Shields to 5+).

Edit. 3rd acquirement on Lair 4.

Losing the offhand punch is much worse than that half aut, though 6 slay should offset that.

It depends on UC skill, the buckler is great early game but is bad late game. I used Ash to forget Shields skill before Tomb.

Re: CSDC S3 Week 4 - GhWr

The +5 slaying buckler only falls behind "no buckler" around UC level 20.

By the time it makes sense to have 20 skill in UC, you are far enough in the game that the amount of experience that it took to get 5 skill in shields does not matter at all and thus should have zero impact on your decision.

So it makes sense to use that +5 slaying buckler for nearly all of the game, if not the entirety of it.

I tried and failed twice this weekend, then I checked the board and apparently I'd either been playing 0.15 or I was missed.

I really want to play around with this, but it's clearly a bug that needs fixing, so I won't use it.

Not fixed yet (on CSZO at least).

You remove your ring of stealth. Magic restored.
You feel agile.

It is interesting that everybody seems to wear gloves, even with UC. So +3 AC is better than Claws 1?

Early game Claws 1 really helps, later in the game you overkill any way (but still train more UC for faster attack).

Yeah not fixed yet on CSZO. I got the super-shaolin ring of +45 EV.

The gloves vs no gloves on Gh was discussed here.

Now it's fixed; my +41 dex ring morphed into merely +6 dex ring.

Well, I once again met an orc priest who didn't particularly care for my face. I actually got somewhere though, so I'm happy about that, save being blasted with a decent early character. Blargh. Good luck to those who haven't finished yet.

The easiest the combo, the worst I am !! Splatted in main dungeon, surrounded after leaving an ossuary

15 runes!

http://crawl.akrasiac.org/rawdata/Magip ... 095224.txt

This is my first all-runer with unarmed, and also with Okawaru. Oka was very annoying for the whole game, he kept excommunicating me for various incidents. My favourite: I killed some new whatnot in the Abyss, it exploded upon death, the explosion hit my skeleton, and Oka grounded me. The point: dont use animate skeleton with Oka, or rather, don't use Oka.

The hardest branch was the Abyss, seriously. Various things kept draining my stats, and I was low of rest.ab. potions. The Abyss is truly horrible, I can't imagine how people keep recommending it as a possible 3rd rune.

Edit: not excommunicated, of course, only put under penance.

Yes, Abyss is really bad for undead who have no ring of sustain abilities/rMut.

Wow, DrKe won with 5 runes and 40k turns, I will never play like that.

PROTIP: That holy wrath doesn't help against minotaurs. :-)

I've been known to be wrong.

I don't really see the connection between bennus and this realization.
(If anything, the various kinds of screaming whatnots are responsible for making Tomb suck now.)
