Lava tiles

How about just making new lava tiles? Something like this:

Re: Ants tiles camouflage on dungeon floor

I think I'd personally like to see lava that is mostly black with only a hint of brightness -- more like this than like what it is currently, but that aesthetic might be hard to express in Crawl. I'd suggest shifting all the lava tiles more toward the red/orange end of the spectrum, with lava monsters more toward the yellow/orange end -- but that might look too mustard/ketchupy. I will probably make a go at sprucing up the monsters.

(hm... maybe this lava thing should be split to it's own thread...)

Could work but with a much more subtle effect. And I like lava2 more btw. And it might be even better if the bright parts had a subtle animation.

Re: Lava tiles

That's good. But maybe keep the dark parts dark, and animate only the bright parts instead. To make them shining a bit.

Re: Lava tiles

Right, when you're looking at an active lava flow, the dark patches stay very dark.
You fall off the wall. You have a feeling of ineptitude.

Well I just took the existing ones and tweaked them a bit...

I don't know if the tiles should be "synced" the way they're in my animations though? Would it look more natural if they were all slightly out of phase with each other?

Re: Lava tiles

Having them out-of-sync would add too much going on on the screen at once, imho.

I don't know. It should be out-of-sync if you name your character acidrobin :D
