Re: Octopode tiles

Why does it have a huge hole in the middle?

Re: Octopode tiles

It's still has a huge hole. If it's intended to be the mouth, know that octopus have a beak. And it shouldn't be visible anyway since it's placed at the center of the legs. Also, no need to upload the full player.png. Just upload a 32x32 image. The player.png file is created automatically during the building phase.

Re: Octopode tiles

Good job, DCstab. An excellent look for the Octopodes.

Is the coat thingy intrinsic to the tile, or one of the body armor tiles? Should Octopodes be drawn wearing body armor? Or having the appearance that they could?

(Should this thread be moved to Contributions?)

Re: Octopode tiles

Good point, I've moved the thread. If the dark thing in the middle is supposed to be a body armour, it should go away. The only armour octopodes can wear are soft hats.

Re: Octopode tiles

Thanks, it looks better. But the upper body looks too humanoid. It's really supposed to be a giant squid, not a human hybrid like nagas and centaurs. And it looks like this tile can't wield a weapon.

Re: Octopode tiles

Why? It does have two humanoid arms. If humanoid is good enough, even if not totally desired, I'd say go with it. It looks pretty good, and people have a fairly strong mind-niche for what a humanoid ceph is supposed to look like, from 'The Little Mermaid' and 'Pirates 2' and '3'.

One thing I was considering tiling was situational coloring.

Red - Normal
Calico with frills - Interested/Happy
Deeper red - Angry/Frustrated
White/Grey - Terrified/Furious

It would require some more coding, though. (Eating permafood -> Calico, Low HP ->White, ...)

Side note: Giant Squids and Giant Octopuses are very different critters. Squids are stiffer and streamlined, and have no means of terrestrial locomotion. Octopuses have no particular shape they must conform to, and they can crawl around out of the water for a while.

Re: Octopode tiles

I'm actually more of a fan of the pink one on the right of the originals. Maybe a little more green or something.

I think you've read me backward. Octopodes are not humanoid hybrids, so the tile shouldn't try look like one.

Re: Octopode tiles

They're not like Davey Jones from "Pirates of the Caribbean".

They're more like the monster from "Deep Rising".

I also like original pink more. though, I would tweak colour and tentacles so they could wield weapon.

Re: Octopode tiles

I don't mind to have an octopode like this, after all they are not truly octopus but rational cephalopodes, I think.

The thing would be finer if the head is bigger and the eyes larger and more separated, and no mouth, since it is found in the middle of the tentacles. Any cephalopode has radial symmetry.

EDIT: Maybe this comic give you an idea http://zapatopi.net/treeoctopus/amazing_stories-1928-05.jpg
