IDEA #1

Divide stone golems into a whole bunch of variants:

  Code:
The basalt golem hits you!
You closely miss the schist golem.

IDEA #2

  Code:
You see here an apple.
The apple falls up and hits you.
You die...

New element of gameplay, the Melange.
Can be found raw, but also in some potions and perma food : spice beer, spice cake, spice coffee...
Has no effect if taken very few.
If you take more, you become mildly addicted, it boost your HP regeneration by 10% but if the level of spice in your body reach zero, you will get 1+D6 penalty for each stats and must wait 2500 turns to loose addiction.
If you take even more, you become higly addicted. The regen boost goes to 20%, and you can sense monsters in your surrounding. Your eyes turn blue and if your level of spice reach 0, you get 1+(2)D5 penallty for each stat, and your speed goes down by 1. In 2500 turns you become middly addicted.
Wants more? You will become dependent. The game will always tells you if there it is a unique on the level. You gain controlled teleport and can map small area. Regen is up by 25% and max MP up by 10%. But if your spice level ever reach zero, you get 1+(3d4) less stats, -.1 speed, double miscast effect, randomly loose consciousness and die after 500 turns.
If you make an overdose, by eating to much spice, or getting caught in a spice blow, 50% chances of a bad mutation and get confused.
Sometime a portal appear in a level, announced by "it smells cinnamon". It brings you to a huge source of melange in a desert, but watch out the pack of Orcs armed with crisknive (a +9 +9 dagger of protection that disintegrate when his wielder die) will defend their rocks, and the mighty Sandworm watch his sand.

P.S. Yes I'm reading Dune again... :ugeek:

New minigame. Level Defender.
You start out on level one with basic monsters and traps, (Kobolds, hobgoblins, dart traps, Etc), you try to stop the adventurer from getting the orb. As you get further on you get more powerful monsters and traps. The level is random, but you can place one vault a level. You aren't actually a character in game, more of a godlike figure watching and commanding. Kind of a variation of Zot Defense.

I had a vault design question, it's not really big enough for a Contributions forum thread, but I didn't know where else to put it, so you all get it. I had an idea for a Fedhas vault, with an inner sanctum with the altar, and an outer room with plants and oklobs, which is the only way into the inner altar room. Nobody would try to get to the Fedhas altar from the outside; rather, the idea of the vault is that if someone ends up in the altar room as the result of a shaft, escape hatch, or teleport, the only options to get out are:
1) Hack through all the plants in the outer room while oklobs shoot at you.
2) Convert to Fedhas and walk through the plants.
(Or 3) teleport out, I'm not that cruel. I was also thinking of a layout where you can 4) dig out, but you still have to deal with a single oklob.)
Question: Given the possibility of a player who can't convert to Fedhas and has no other means of getting out -- an undead with no teleport scrolls, no digging, and no invisibility, for instance -- is this kind of "haha, eat shit, player!" vault Okay To Do? I'm reminded of the Vehumet vaults that are surrounded by trees, would this be a case like that?

Edit: Okay, looking at some other vaults, and seeing stuff in the "Odd stuff in the dungeon" thread, I've concluded that this would probably be okay if I made it late enough where the average player would probably have a means of escape. And if not, well, haha, eat shit, player!

Consult with other vault designers but in my view it would have to be REALLY late, like D:20 at the earliest. It sounds like a real screw, and forced conversions seem against the spirit of the game. Cool idea though.

Yeah, I might make a thread in Contributions after all and run the Screw Vault question past the devs. I do have a similar idea, though, which is less of a screw: stick some nice loot on the other side of a mess of plants and oklobs and put a Fedhas altar near the entrance. At least then you get an option even if you get a bad teleport.

There might be some like this already. I know I've run into a number of different oklob vaults; can't remember if there was an altar or not. This one would have to come early I think: late game, you're not going to abandon your god just to get some loot - you'll just kill the oklobs. Early on it would present an interesting option - choose a god I wasn't planning on and get some sweet loot, or pass it all up?

It is the new Fedhas' marketing given that this is a not popular god. I would love to see some Fedhas ambush vaults forcing or luring the player to became a fedhasite.

I was inspired by a couple of run-the-gauntlet oklob vaults, like one in Lair where you have to run past oklobs to get to any of the downstairs. I think having to hack through plants to get past the oklobs is new, though, and I haven't found any vaults with Fedhas altars that present that kind of option.

While thinking of "you faint" as an alternative to "you die" in the undead death thread... behold!

God idea- God of Pokemon

Name: Gottacatchemall

"I'm supereffective!"

New class, Poke Trainer:
Starting e.q.: You immediately start with 3 normal pokeballs and 50 piety under Gotta

Appreciates:

-Your pokemon killing foes
-Capturing monster types you haven't captured already
-Collecting badges (runes of zot)

Deprecates:

-Letting your pokemon faint

Abilities:

Innate:
-Immediately upon choosing Gotta, you can choose between one of three captured monsters: a giant frog, a fire drake baby, and a toadstool
-evoke Pokeball-summons a respective pokemon from it's ball or throws an empty one. Switches pokemon if one is already on the field.

*Quickthrow(food, 2 Mana)- Like Nemelex' draw card, throws an unequipped pokeball.

**Item-Throwing a potion of healing at a pokemon will heal it halfway, cure wounds will fully heal it.

***Run- Run away at a 100% fail rate "you fail to run..."

*****Evolve(high piety, food). Monsters with corresponding levels will evolve. Drakes-> Dragons, elf fighters- elf knights, etc.

******Master Ball- You may pray at an altar to Gotta to recieve the master ball, instantly capturing any monster.

Gifts- Gotta will periodically give gifts of pokeballs. Only 6 pokemon may be carried at a time, the rest are transported out of the dungeon. In addition to normal pokeballs, special pokeballs may appear which have an increased chance of catching certain types of monsters. These are:

Black pokeballs (undead)
Red Pokeballs (demons)
White Pokeballs (Angels/Daeva)
Blue Pokeballs (aquatic)
Brown Pokeballs (animal)

Warnings- Do not carry pokeballs around maurice.
