I don't think peppers would make you berserk. Maybe a few peppers with different effects:

Jalapeno - you immediately cast fireball when eating this, even if you don't know the spell. Doesn't anger Trog either.
Chipotle (a smoked jalapeno) - you emit forth a cloud of smoke
Trinidad Scorpion - summons a usually friendly giant scorpion
Ghost Pepper - very rare find, casts lich form on you when you eat it, regardless of spellcasting ability.
Bell Pepper - acts as a scroll of noise.
Fatali pepper - is fatal if consumed. enemies that can get hungry have a chance to eat it as well, if they cross a tile with it.

all peppers also count as fruit for fedhas, and give a small amount of nutrition.

Generate armour pieces which become extremely powerful depending on religion. They are intended to encourage god switch like some weapons encourage switching weapon class. Examples:

• plate armour of cold resistance "Hidden Fire", can be enchanted normally, for characters with Makhleb: rF+++, rSticky, Minor Destruction and Minor Servant don't decrease HP
• robe of archmagi "Slow and Steady", can be enchanted normally, for characters with Chei: AC+10, halves piety cost for Slouch, grants Antennae 2 mutation
• gloves of archery "Atheist Shooter", can be enchanted normally, for characters without religion (cannot be used by Dg): decreases shooting delay by 30% for all ranged launchers, the bonus stacks with speed/velocity etc.
