Generic Brainstorming!

Crawl seems pretty well suited to a superhero theme already. All it would need is a little tweaking. Would that I could code.

Zapping a wand of draining at a tile with water in it should remove the water.
Vorpal blades should go snicker-snack.
New god proposal.
Okrawaru the gumbo master is a powerful god of cooking dedicated to making tasty stews from vegetable that create mucus.
Appreciates eating food.
Deprecates mummies because they can't eat.

I could get behind Okrawaru. At max piety he would enchant a choko and turn it into an ultimate weapon.

Okrawaru is at his greatest power on the Tuesday 40 days before Easter. Or is tying things to the real-world calendar too Nethackish?

I know this was already suggested earlier in this thread, but I think there should be death curses for player mummies. Maybe the curses could get more severe the higher in level you were when you died.

Sure, it would hardly help you, since you're already dead when it happens, but it would add a note of (much-needed) amusement when you splat, and it'd help illustrate that "the dev team thinks of everything" mentality.

I suggest to merge the two "pet" species (the most hated by some purists) felids and octopodes into octopussy cats, i.e. cats with tentacles.

Gimmicks: small size, carnivore +3, fur +1, initially eight lives (1 per tentacle), 8 ring slots available (decreasing with each live), can swim (but it doesn't like really much), stealth +3 aptitude.

Re: Generic Brainstorming!

Heck, I'll post this here as well (slightly revised):

Zicher wrote: the +4,+7 demon blade of Taehiot (weapon) {pain, +Lev rElec rPois rF++ MR SInv}
Screw Okawaru - I want to worship Taehiot now!

Which leads to the silly idea of Taehiot, god of Enchantments and Greed (or Treasure Hunters?).
  • Gives 3 Scrolls of Acquirement as the 6* piety gift
  • Increases the chances of Enchant Scrolls working passively, allows them to reach higher levels (+12/+12?)
  • Biases Acquirement to be slightly better
  • Allows you to use Apportation, Insulation, Identify and Resist Poison as Invocations abilities.
  • Pray over weapons to automatically use a short duration Tukima's Dance on them (longer with higher piety), after which they dissapear into your gods treasure vault for eternity and you gain piety.
  • Also gain piety by discovering new item types and brands.
  • Mimics are friendly if your piety is high enough, and join your side like Beorgh and Orcs, and follow you around on the current level. Possibly, praying over a non-weapon item turns it into a mimic instead of invoking Tukima's Dance.
  • Possibly a means to disarm and disrobe (?!) enemies with a targeted ability.

Anyway, the god is really just interested in all of the treasure that is interred in the dungeon and needs you to liberate it, and give it to him/her. In return, he/she offers their subjects fortune in wealth and the ability to get more of it as well as the means to make their shinies even shinier. Personal greed to an extent is fine, but Redistribution of Wealth is the big byword.

In fact, what else is your quest for the orb if not a means to drag the ultimate shiny to the surface and ensure its power is distributed to the surface; these underground monsters have hogged it too long and this clashes with Taehiot's agenda.

Golden, Shiny, Larger than life, an imposing figure; that is Taehiot.

Huh, that somehow ended up mildly convincing. :o Kinda mildly clashes with Ash and Nemelex, but not a huge amount.

Oh not at all, there's not a hint of socialism in his/her agenda. If anything, its far more Capitalist.

Can't be bothered to reach out and take what you want? Stuff you, then, be poor. Redistribution of Wealth, is, however, required for a healthy economy. So sometimes, risks need to be taken, thievery and extortion needs to occur, and workers need sufficient incentive to not be ground into dust from lack of motivation. Luck occassionally thrusts people into wealth, and your adventurer, down on luck, gambles on the tiniest chance of wealth in a grand measure against the odds of death and seeks the orb of zot. :)

Kind of Chaotic Neutral with an uncertain standing on the Blue/Orange morality scale; since you're after both Bacon and Neckties if you can help it.

New spell proposal.
Orb of Construction.
Summons a huge block of constructive energy that at low power creates a wax wall, at medium power a rock wall, and at high power a stone wall. Most copies of this spell contain a scribal error causing it to dissipate at long range so beware.

If you have sufficiently high power it is touted as providing affordable housing for orcs, and thus attracts large amounts of public funding, but is then sold off at colossal profit as luxury condos for uniques. Shorefront properties in the Shoals are particularly susceptible to this.

Also, Boris and Roxanne shorted "toxic mortgages" and made a killing even when the market went down. Although the Occupy Temple movement is trying to mobilize public opinion against such shenanigans, the gold pieces have already changed hands and there's little they can do.

The Occupy movement is doomed because the Temple is part of the Establishment and is conniving with the authorities to have the occupiers removed. The problem is insidious. Do you have *any idea* what Sigmund's bonus was last year?
