You ask Lola about the strange Spriggan chess game.
Lola tells you not to worry.
Lola tells you to roll over.

Re: Generic Brainstorming!

a superhero roguelike

I keep thinking how much fun this would be, and how suitable the Crawl engine is for it.

Race - You'd pick your basic body type: robot, mutant, alien, unpowered human, etc. This would determine the power sets you could choose from.

Class - This would be more elaborate than in Crawl, since your powers would be mostly fixed from the start. There could be a choice between rolling a random set of powers, or custom designing your hero Champions style.

Powers would work pretty much like spells do.

Sidekicks and super teams are covered by the summoned creature mechanic.

Items would be much as they are in Crawl, though rarer. If you're a tech hero, you could design new items. A Superman type would do without.

Dungeon floors and branches would be different areas you patrolled. You'd start out beating on petty criminals in an urban neighbourhood, and by the end would be fighting a global crime army at their Antarctic base, or thrashing Galactus in orbit around Alpha Centauri. Space, undersea, desert, alien worlds.

Instead of Temple you'd discover a cool cave/mansion and build your secret hideout. Stashing would thus be more elaborate than in Crawl.

The gods system might be done away with, or restricted to certain hero types - Thor, Green Lantern etc.

Co-operative online play.

Et cetera.

That oft-suggested forest branch is a good idea, but where would you put it? Across D:5-20 there are about five branches -- You'd either need to stick it right at the beginning or right at the end of D, or maybe as a side branch -- Orc perhaps?

Airstrike's icon should be of a F-16 attacking a bailey. The length of a god's wrath should be linked to how long you had worshiped him/her/it. Sigmund should sometimes show up in the vault with all the Sigmund want to be's, like he's teaching them.

Re: Generic Brainstorming!

Zombies always leave corpses and revive after some time.

If your character is damaged by a zombie(even if the attack deals zero damage and is blocked by AC) you get the *INFECTED* status. Once infected, your character dies after a random amount of turns and revives as a zombie. Undead players are immune to infection and will gain a permanent ROT status instead.

You can play with a new character and meet your old zombified character instead of a ghost.

Additionally, zombies attack other monsters. Living monsters are also infected and turn into zombies themselves.

Good luck in surviving the Zot Zombie Apocalypse! :D

Oh, it's already Walking Dead season 2, gotta watch! See you folks! 8-)

Choko statues!

Just like all the other statues, except instead of being shaped like a minotaur or floating eye or whatever, it's shaped like a choko!

And if you play as a Kenku Hunter, you can find powerups in them, like the Mice Beam (a wand which fires an endless stream of mice to assault the enemy), or the Scrooge Attack (a sling which uses your gold as ammunition)!

i - Hardened Choko Gagball +2 {worn}

Head Gear

AC: 0

It prevents spellcasting (in a very elegant way).
It prevents eating and drinking (look above).
It protects you from unholy pain and torment (it's not that you don't feel it, more like not being able to scream in agony).
It is red. (No shit!?)

Lola approves the use of this item.

More of a stupid idea then a generic one but here it is. My young brother thinks that if you are a DE then all the DE monsters should be neutral towards you, kobolds and kobolds, Etc. He doesn't get the idea of game balance and how that would make the halls/early game/shoals much too easy for certain races.

Toasters! Evocable items.

How about... Scrolls with invisible words? you need Sinv to read them.

I think we need some more *bad* scrolls.

Scroll of Destroy Item -- Sucks when you mistake it for Enchant Armour. Great when you need to get rid of wielded distortion.
Scroll of Petrification -- Has the same effect of calcifying dust.
Scroll of Ineptitude -- Lose 1d4 levels off your highest skill.
Scroll of Nonsense -- Suffer a random miscast.
Scroll of Wrath -- Suffer a random divine retribution.
Scroll of Banishment -- Extremely rare. Either the ultimate escape item or the ultimate game ruiner.
Scroll of Earthquake -- Creates 5-10 rock walls in your LoS.
