Funny you should mention Ballard. Just the other day I ran across the original film Crash, from 1971, based on the short story not the novel, and starring the man himself. It's pretty damn good: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HT2eECKvdTc

Ooh, I will check that out - though I liked the Cronenberg version, which I thought captured something of the spirit of the novel. I await the release of the big-budget Hollywood version of The Atrocity Exhibition eagerly.

Do you think rPois couild be made a 3-level thing? Like, one item grants 90% resistance, two items grants 98% resistance, three grants total resistance?

Acquirement for scrolls.

Would grant 3-5 out of (summoning, EWI, EWII, detect curse, remove curse, teleport, blinking, amensia, identify, fear) or 1-2 out of (vorpalise weapon, enchant armour, EWIII, silence)

New branch: the Oubliette of the Lazarus Taxa.

Monsters include terror skinks, coelacanthuses, tree lobsters, Gilbert's Potoroos (a violent variety), night parrots, and of course jellyfish trees.

Not much loot, but you get to publish your results in Nature.

That's just what I was doing too, incited by the boingboing post about the tree lobsters. (Also looked at pictures of Ball's Pyramid, which is really something to see.) Even though the Hive is no more, the Crawl Hivemind appears to be healthy.

Happy Corner: Dinosaurs are not Lazarus taxa.

Deep elf bladeaverage. "This elf is okay with a sword. Not great with a sword but but at least it doesn't seem to be cutting its hand with its sword."

Found an ancient bone altar of Kikubaaqudgha.
Miasma emanates from the human’s flesh.
The human is engulfed in dark miasma. The human is poisoned.
The human is engulfed in dark miasma. The human looks even sicker.
The human dies! The human rises from the dead!
The human awakes as a lifeless postdoc!

Crazy Yiuf might actually do well in academia checking citations. The citation form for proper papers is insanely complex and seemingly slightly random.

He's notorious for it. But stealing from the Tavern is surely a new low, even for him.

Dodos aren't Lazarus taxa. In order for a species to be a qualify to be Lazarus taxa, it has to be thought extinct and then found not to be extinct.

Yeah, anyway the Oubliette of the Lazarus Taxa is going to branch off from the much larger Cavern of Extinction. Dodos will feature as one of the main threats there.

A living dodo would have to be found before they were eligible for inclusion in the new Lair ending. Too bad for you, dodos!
