If it doesn't fit anywhere else, it belongs here. Also, come here if you just need to get hammered.

Also, brainstormingwise, I'm watching "The Thing" (the 1982 Carpenter one, not the prequel that just came out). A mimic, but instead of mimicking features, it mimics your allies. It follows you, staying just out of LoS, and if one of your allies drops out of your LoS, it will attempt to kill it and then it will mimic it. When you come across the mimic again, it will appear to be that ally, and you will be none the wiser. It will have the little heart icon, it will even attack enemies... until it gets adjacent to you, at which point it will reveal its true self and try to kick your ass.

The Stone Giant is actually a mimic!
The Ally Mimic hits you!
Ouch! That really hurt!

TRUST NO ONE
That would be a really annoying way to die, though. If implemented, there would need to be telltale signs to exploit (maybe it doesn't follow orders very well, or can't use weapons), or it could only attack you a turn after revealing its true form.

That could be a cool idea. Grants the Mara-like power to create illusions of yourself, or of monsters.

A long sword "Silencer" {frost, Stealth+}. Not so damaging, but quite accurate (+n, +0).
Whenever it strikes an enemy, there is a fairly high chance (three times out of five) that it will create a single square of Silence (yes, the mini-version of Silence spell) for one to two turns, basically making it a Wizardbane or a Lichbane. However, that square is not fixed to the target, so a Wizard might as well move out of it.
Occasionally (one time out of twenty, in example) it breaks out a larger circle of SIlence (1/2 of LoS or radius 3-4 or bigger) that lasts longer and is affixed to the target it just hit. Since this effect is quite eerie, such affixed Silence has a (one out of three) chance of scaring away the affected creature, forcing it to run away -- possibly towards the body-guarded smiters and spell-casters.
What would you think about such an artefact?

I, of course, would choose the sword, but there really are a plenty of them there.
Spear is not the choice.
Staves are not the choice as well: they are usually magical.
For some reason, I still think it must be a long sword.
Thanks for telling me about that page, Jeff -- will send it there!
