Concerning Yred's usefulness

Why does Yred have to be dog shit useless past mid? He's a fun god to mess around with, basically the dark version of The Shining One. Will there be some way in the future that he can benefit from killing undead or demonic entities? It hurts his flavor a bit, but I believe it necessary for those who want to stick with him.

At this point I'm surprised he hasn't been removed.

Re: Concerning Yred's usefulness

I always thought he's pretty good in 3 runes, unlike TSO who's bad in 3 runes and good in postend.

Indeed, Yred is very very awesome until Vaults. Pretty cool in Depths, also.

You can't die if you train some invo and just repeat Drain Life.
Profane servitors and bone dragons just destroy everything.

I've even enjoyed TSO on a 3 rune run, but maybe I'm nuts.

Yred is good in Zot and on the orbrun if you store your gifts outside of it and airdrop them in case you really need it.

Mak gives you more healing on kills, plus even more from regen spell (though I'm not saying TSO is bad in extended).

Re: Concerning Yred's usefulness

TSO allies are extremely better than Makh allies (3 angels/daevas can kill any lord safely when hasted, and they are protected from abjuration unlike pretty much every other ally in the game) and cleansing flame is pretty damn good as well. And holy weapons!

Oh, and rN+++ is actually pretty damn convenient, so here's that.

My favorite switch is probably Yred->TSO, actually. Yred wrath is pretty pathetic, his usefulness in postend - nonexistent, and TSO supports pretty much the same playstyle - melee with a bunch of Invocations. Plus, it's a classic redemption story.

Re: Concerning Yred's usefulness

Your point is obsolete now, to be honest.
Yred got buffed quite some good since I last complained.
Not only he accepts daemonic deaths now, you can enslave daemons themselves, including any Unique Pan and Hell Lords, tho they do lose their incredibly fat hp pool.
Now Yred is viable for 15 runes. Drain Life could be further improved, however. As well as undead pet gifted.

Can anyone confirm this? I read the wiki a while back and does not indicate this change.

Yup, safest way to gather correct and updated informations is either code diving of latest release /trunk or read the commits from the repository or their clones such as this one

Sorry for the delay. You've probably checked it already, however, by the time I posted, wiki already stated Yred's Enslave soul working on daemons, tho they forgot to add daemon/undead kill piety.
Here are the relevant commitments anyway.
