What happened to Diary of a Crawler?

Serious question here, stuck it in CYC because I couldn't find a better place to put it is all. What happened to Diary Of A Crawler on the wiki? It used to be this gigantic collection of people's written-out Crawl adventures and they were fun to read, in fact there was one particular DEIE story that largely inspired me on its own to get better at the game and win one, because it was so amazing to read. But after a lot of searching, everything seems to suggest that the entire diary section on the wiki has been deleted.

If this is not the case, then could someone direct me there, or to where it was moved? And if it is the case, could someone please explain to me how come? Because I think that would be a terrible horrible thing and it'd make me extremely sad to see it just disappear for good, without it even being archived, especially since I've never gotten a chance to contribute a story myself yet.

I'm curious about this too. I particularly liked the DE Ice elementalist that Schwa was just talking about. I know the wiki had some kind of reformatting, but did they just... delete them?

Re: What happened to Diary of a Crawler?

I think they had to recreate the articles on the wiki, not just reformat them. In that case, they didn't delete DoaC, but just didn't migrate it to the new setup. It may still exist somewhere, and if you inquire with the wiki admins, someone might be able to resurrect it.

She's Rex's wife and she's from the Middle Ages. She's just unfamiliar with buses. Thinks they're dragons.

Re: What happened to Diary of a Crawler?

When the Crawl Wiki did its reformat, we did in fact have to manually transfer over pretty much every page from the old site to the new. It sucked. A lot.

During that transition, we decided to cut a few corners and leave out things we didn't think would be missed. The DoaC stories were one of those corners. We didn't receive them very often at all, most of them were extremely short and never finished, and frankly we had no idea they had a fan base. Apparently that's not the case.

If you'd like to see them come back that much, we'll transfer 'em over. There can't be THAT many... Feel free to write new ones, but PLEASE, if you decide to do so, please don't post anything until you've got a substantial block of material. There are few things more depressing than a single paragraph about a minotaur fighter going into a Dungeon, followed by To Be Continued.

Oh, sorry.

No Animal Buses were injured in the reformatting of CrawlWiki. We did totally eff up a couple Veggie Buses, and burned down a Mineral Bus or two, but screw those guys.

I understand the veggie bus has a certain sort of historical horror for waste vegetable oil people. Many would consider the destruction of one to be heroic.

That sounds encouraging because, let's face it, Dungeon Crawl: Stone Soup has always remained inferior to Dungeon Crawl: Grit Gazpacho.

Re: What happened to Diary of a Crawler?

I demand the game be renamed as Grit Gazpacho.

Actually that reminds me of something a dentist told me once. I was getting my "wisdom" teeth out (I grew not a whit less wise after they were gone) and I asked him how come we need surgery to take these teeth out, I mean what did people do for the hundreds of thousands of years before dental surgery existed? He (he'd done dentistry on African tribespeople) said that what's happened is that people's food used to be much dirtier, with bits of grit and sand and whatnot all in it (not to mention crunchy bits of bone, bug, shell and seed), such that the teeth were constantly being polished, and by the time the wisdom teeth came in, there were large gaps between the teeth and the wisdom teeth were actually necessary. And it's true - look at pictures of grinning indigeni and you'll see they all have huge gaps between their teeth. So the modern toothy grin presenting a solid wall of tightly packed teeth is actually an abnormality, dentally speaking. Not to mention the grit polishing used to whiten the teeth naturally. And flossing was unnecessary because of the gaps. Etc.

On and off in the years since I have used a salt shaker with sand in it to sprinkle grit on my food, to have my teeth cleaned Grandad's way. I never keep it up for long, but if the grains are small enough it's not at all unpleasant.
