I wouldn't say that. After all, most of the monsters and species come from various mythologies. It's been mentioned Disney is the reason Djinn don't have boot slots, and the reason that the monstrosities have tentacles is HP Lovecraft. The only reason not to use things from other works is avoiding cease and desist letters and a desire not to ape the canon (particularly D&D/Nethack). I doubt being inspired by something recognizable would be reason to reject a well-design feature.

fun fact SCP-173 actually predates Blink

I first saw SCP-173 in the 90's sometime, it not only predates Blink, but the whole Dr. Who reboot.

I think I may have come across it when reading stuff from the warehouse 23 basement (Which is long ago gone away, *sad face*)
