If it doesn't fit anywhere else, it belongs here. Also, come here if you just need to get hammered.

Yes, Smoke Demon is the most annoying monster for me in Pan, Fire Crab is the most annoying monster for me in Vaults.
I often prefer amulet of conservation over more useful amulets, if I luckily have it of course.

Early fire/cold is ok I think, there are a few scrolls/potions to lose.

You all are getting soft. We need rust monsters and spheres of annihilation.

Scrolls?

My last character was a mummy, with innate fire vulnerability... and also mummies cannot drink healing potions. Even after blinking out of range I could not figure out anything against dying.

Hm? He shot fire at me... K, then it was a wand of fire.
Did not have much time to look at it, as he was in his murderous mood.

Deep Dwarves already don't regenerate! And there are no other kinds of course, that'd just be silly.
Won Offline: NaFE(3), MiBe(3), HEIE(3), DsCj(3), MfSk(4), MfSk(15), DsIE(15).

Dwarf Fortress ref.
Also, if you do not regenerate it anyway, why not amputate it? ;)

That raises the question: why don't we just rename them Dwarves?

I think it might be to emphasize their distinction from more traditional fantasy dwarves, and also because all the other traditional-fantasy species have some modifier (Hill, Sludge, Deep, High, etc.)

Actually, DF doctor skills have no real effect on performance except speed (oh and a bit of blood splatter but that's irrelevant). A dwarf who has no experience whatsoever will get the surgery operation done just as well as a legendary surgeon. Is why I don't have dedicated doctors in my DF forts, I have 60% of the population do medical work so whoever is free will process the casualties.

But there's no need for actual reality to ruin a good reference.

I think at least diagnostic tasks need to have a skilled practitioner to avoid false diagnoses.
I could be wrong, though, did not play for a while.

I've always wondered why sticky flame doesn't destroy books as well as scrolls.

I put my books on the ground because of this. I felt lucky when my books were not destroyed by fire. I can't remember how I learned that they cannot be destroyed (probably read somewhere)

Took me forever to figure out that you can learn spells just by standing on the book....which is as good a reason as any not to carry them around.

Unless the book still has a spell you want to learn. A very important, lifesaving spell, such as CBlink or Haste that you do not want to wait for ;)

Or you're halfway through it. There's nothing worse than having half-read a book only for it to be destroyed by fire. I hate not finding out the ending.
