The drunk man's crusade.

I love this game.
I wanted to be part of the community.
I get on the IRC and BOOM!
P S Y MAR.
This man proceeds to be a fucking DICK TO ME!
Now all the best players in the world (mikee) think I'm some dumb motherfucker.
They don't see my potential! THEY BASH ME FOR PLAYING TILES! (which don't exist)
I'm drunk.
I got my second win today and nobody fucking cares. It'd be okay but everybody praised me for my first win. Now I get no fucking recognition and P S Y MAR DESTROYS MY NAME ON THE IRC CHAT! WHAT A PRICK!
He might not be a prick though. I'm a prick. I just try to make friends on the internet and this guy is a dick to me. He's probably a cool guy though. I'm just drunk.
BUT FUCK HIM. I hope i don't get banned for this...
Plz.
PSYMAR, I JUST WANT TO BE FRIENDS WITH EVERYONE WHO PLAYS THIS AMAZING GAME!
WHAT THE HELL DOES PSYMAR EVEN MEAN?!
kbye.

But only tiled feelings! As opposed to consolidated feelings, like for the rest of us :)

You must remain silent of your affection for Tiles. Now is not the time... We must lurk in the shadows, waiting, until we are ready to strike. And we will inherit Crawl.
Won Offline: NaFE(3), MiBe(3), HEIE(3), DsCj(3), MfSk(4), MfSk(15), DsIE(15).

I play online at crawl.s-z.org as Lyfon. There I have won: MfGl(15), NaTm(15), HEIE(15), HaAK(6), and NaDK(3).

Re: The drunk man's crusade.

I would congratulate you on the victory post thread, but there is a certain sad beauty to it as-is, and I do not wish to ruin its spartan elegance by actually posting there.

Many people fail to appreciate the special challenges we dipsomaniacs face in gaming... the crutch of tiles is a tiny thing compared to the added difficulty of finding the right keys to press while seeing double, or blacking out halfway through the Lair.

Fortunately Crawl has the decency to play along at our impaired pace, and only punish our impaired decision making, and not compound the horror by relying on one's alcohol-crippled reflexes as well. If you wish to try a game that is truly and deeply unfair to drunks, I would suggest Eve Online... a screen full of tiny x's and crosses, where any tiny misclick can bring sudden annihilation. Or at least that was the case several years ago when I last played - they may have made the UI more accommodating (mmorpg space tiles?) since then.

anyhoo, well done sir! now go and fill your morgue file with characters named "zzzzxxcxzzxz" that you don't quite actually even quite remember creating!! Huzzah!

I refuse to accept that playing tiles isn't a choice, the guys playing tiles today, I saw them when they were in kindergarten with me, they weren't playing tiles then!

Legitimizing your tiles would destroy the institution of consoles.

I know you won't easily tile over the hard feelings but then again, tile heals all wounds!
Do me the favour and be a bit more versatile, at least until the tile has turned. Thanks!

there should be an alternate version of tiles, where instead of fancy depictions of floors, walls, monsters, items, every tile in the game is just a .png of the console glyph in a nice font

Kind of like glyph mode in webtiles? Except I don't think that uses any pngs.

Well, trying to find a name that wouldn't offend some of the membership is a futile endeavor.
