Who is mr. Cerebov?

I suddenly became interested in Cerebov`s background. Most uniques have mythological or popular cultural origin, which can be googled. All I have on Cerebov is that his name sounds slavic. Is it Linley, who thought him out, or did he appeared more recently? Any other interesting facts?

AFAIK, all the named Pan lords are made up/unique to Crawl, unlike the Hell lords who originate in various mythologies. I don't know if they originated with Linley or were later additions; I haven't been around that long.

I seem to remember that "Cerebov" is a deliberate misspelling of "Cerebus", the Canadian demigod of misogyny (whose name is itself a misspelling of Cerberus), but I can't recall where I read it. Maybe I imagined it.

I always thought it might have been a reference to Chernobog...

I think I subconsciously assumed it was a corruption of Cerberus.
I like the suggestions above.
I am not clear on the history - I did play Crawl back when Linley first released early versions, but lost touch with the game at several points during the subsequent development.

That would be hilarious if it were the case, but I doubt. I remember reading those as a wee little kid.
Also,
The 6000-page story is a challenge to summarize
summarizes the story perfectly.

More to the point, who is Mrs Cerebov?

Doesn't exist. The devs don't want to have little cerebovs scampering around, getting under cerebov's feet, and eventually turning into big cerebov's.

Besides, we all know that Cerebov's sword is just compensating for something. (And it's useless anyhow.)

All cerebov wants is someone to love... I bet if you brought him something nice he would be overwhelmed with emotion and let you have the rune

All this joking reminds me how we used to joke about particulary dreadful professor back in my student days (catamites and twisted swords and all this stuff). So I suggest we add pan lord like 1.5 times more dreadful than cerebov and call him Barilovich. He could drain intelligence on industrial scales among other things.

Even better, given he taught thermodynamics, he could throw fire and ice storms in turns.

New weapon proposal: atomic bomb.

Similar in effect to Lugonu's Corrupt ability except that it affects all of every level and inflicts non-cureable degeneration, rot, and glow on all creatures, living and non-living, including the original wielder. These effects time out eventually but certainly not until after you're long dead.

Fruit does need to be given a pivotal role in the game. It's probably the most pressing issue in crawl development.

And the most overlooked. Where are the playable fruits we spent so long debating and refining? Never implemented, that's where. I just hope the moment is not lost forever.

Meanwhile other games are way ahead of us in the fruit/ exploration/ combat genre. Not for the first time, we risk losing market share for entirely avoidable reasons.

New Demonspawn Mutation: Fruity Guardian

Summons one or more friendly fruits to aid you temporarily. Only occurs when tension is high, and dismisses them when tension drops. Higher mutation levels require higher tension to activate. This is a bad mutation to have when worshipping Fedhas, especially when you only have one level of it: weak fruits will appear unbidden just when they are most likely to be killed, which Fedhas deprecates.

Rank 1: Weak fruit (Grape, Sharon Fruit, Raspberry). Rank 2: Medium fruit (Tangerine, single Banana, bunch of Grapes). Rank 3: Powerful fruit (Bunch of Bananas, Coconut, Watermelon)
