Poly Other is the Greatest Spell of All Time
I have, after exhaustive and comprehensive playtesting, come to the conclusion that Polymorph Other is objectively the best spell in Crawl.
Pros-
-Can get you Dragon Armour very early in the Dungeon. Wear your favorite Unique for fashion and function!
-Can permanently deprive the target of both Spells and Equipment- no more fuss about Centaurs, Orc Warriors, and Uniques!
-Gives rBoredom+++ Swap out boring enemies (like Slugs) for exciting ones (like Storm Dragons!) The prime player killer in Crawl isn't Sigmund- it's inattention! No matter how sleep deprived you may be, I guarantee Polymorph Other will provide many a much-appreciated wakeup call!
-Adds infinite replayability to branches- Why fight those predictable hordes of Spiders for 5 floors when you could face down monsters from anywhere in the dungeon?
-Is well within the reach of all characters- Four spell slots is a trivial price to pay for unlimited entertainment.
Cons-
I am open to suggestions.
Conclusion- Polymorph Other is a masterpiece of a spell, and Poly wands should be generated much more frequently so even Berserkers can get in on the action. Additionally, Mass Polymorph should be added as a 6th level spell, so the fun can be expanded to everyone in sight. Extra hilarious when found on Pan Lords and Player Ghosts!
