Linley Henzell, Legend Gamer

Check this out. Seems being good at roguelikes doesn't completely destroy your chances with the ladies.

This deserves a bump. I always unconsciously imagined linley as more of a linus torvalds-type for some reason

You whippersnappers will find out that that's actually when the real problems begin.

Yes, but going solo guarantees that you'll be the target of attention.

I don't really plan ahead much in these matters but certainly not in the next months/year (I'm a few months before moving quite far away). It seems like a lot of hassle too so there's that :P

It does severely cut into my crawl time. Of course starcraft 2 also does that, but hey. Oddly my girlfriend seems to hate me playing crawl more than playing other games because crawl doesn't make sense to normal people. I figure any videogame time should be equally hated, but there you have it.

That's a good point. If you step back and try to think about or describe it in everyday terms, it sounds like pure lunacy.

Re: Linley Henzell, Legend Gamer

I will have you know that Crawl helped with my dating life. The guy I've just begun to date says that my mention of Crawl as my favourite game in my OKCupid profile is one of the things that made me seem like an attractive mate to him.

Of course, he's ascended nethack but never Crawl, so I'm not sure how I feel about him.

Re: Linley Henzell, Legend Gamer

Indeed. Whenever our toddler crawls as a protest against acting like a big girl, I tell her that crawling is for babies, and babies don't get to do the cool stuff that she likes to do.

So I can't justify Crawling in my spare time.

Re: Linley Henzell, Legend Gamer

I started playing crawl as something to do when I've put a baby down to sleep in the middle of the night after feeding. It's quiet, and I can stop and pick up the baby again if he starts crying. If I'm convinced he is going to sleep, then I can quit playing at any time and don't have to wait for a save point.

Of course, my youngest child is 4 now and well past the bottle-in-the-middle-of-the-night phase, but I'm still crawling.

My wife doesn't understand what crawl is at all.

Epic find. There's a photograph of him on the site where he got interviewed by the guy who interviews indie game programmers. He does not look nerdy at all, so it's not only about the roguelikes it seems :-).

What's more time consuming, having kids or TRYING to have some?

In my case trying doesn't cut my play time much, but I did get Yet Another Sexy Death.

So that's why there hasn't been an update to Angry Moth.

Also, I used to dev Crawl, but then I took a child to the knee.

Re: Linley Henzell, Legend Gamer

My girlfriend is one of those people that just don't get why I like playing "a game with such primitive graphics" (and I play the tiles version, imagine what she'd say if it were console). Also, she's questioning the fact that after 15 ascensions I still want to play the game. She tried playing a melee Felid once, because it's a fucking cat and she loves cats. :P Perhaps that's why she didn't like the game. Oh well. I wasn't expecting much, tbh. She prefers racing/FPS/time management games. At least she doesn't play any games on Facebook. ;)
