Spriggans: Relatives of Elves or Dryads?

If it doesn't fit anywhere else, it belongs here. Also, come here if you just need to get hammered.

Spriggans: Relatives of Elves or Dryads?

I'm confused as to why Spriggan look like relatives of dryads rather than relatives of elves and as to why they are listed in the wiki as little but appear in game as tiny (bat size)

I've only seen two art styles for Spriggan. The Elder Scroll ones where they look like relatives of dryads and the Pathfinder one where they look like relatives of goblins but are supposedly 'twisted gnomes'.

In my minds eye they look like what a gnome looks like but more elf looking with long ears. Any reason why they look like cousins of dryads instead?

"Spriggans are small, magical creatures distantly related to Elves. They love to frolic and cast mischevious spells."

I'm not sure where you're getting dryads from, but if it's from some other game, then there's the source of your confusion.

Wiki wrote:Spriggans are tiny and cannot use many weapons and armour.

(emphasis added)
I'm also not sure where you read that they are little.

Yes. That's exactly what I meant. In tiles they look like small dryad-looking creatures. Maybe whoever did the Tiles went with the Elder Scroll representation of Spriggan(?)

Best Spriggan I've seen. If they're related to elves shouldn't their ears be slightly pointy?

CrawlWiki wrote:Crawl uses a discrete system of sizes to decide how large or small a monster is. There are eight categories, as follows from smallest to largest:
Tiny (bat-sized)
Little (spriggan-sized)
Small (kobold-sized)
Medium (human-sized)
Large (ogre-sized)
Big (hippogriff-sized)
Giant (giant-sized)
Huge (dragon-sized)

Or Spriggan porn in this case.

For some reason I see Spriggans more like little children/toddlers. Similar to FFO TaruTaru with elven beauty and elf ears. Kind of like a toddler Link from Zelda fame.

I wish I could draw so I'd draw my own little SpEn (formally SpSt) posing Dihonored style.

Traditionally spriggans are spirits from Cornish lore related to winds, very changing in their size. They inhabit ruins and act as fairies body-guards.

I don't see them as veggies or specially linked to forests, although Crawl tries to depict them as wild fairies.

Yes I read that too on Wiki. But most people tend to make fantasy creatures into whatever fits their 'campaign world'. Spriggans in Pathfinder are supposedly gnomes twisted but they don't look nothing like a gnome.

Regardless right now they're my favorite race followed by Vampires.
